Should anyone desire to 'reconnect' with childhood and the role of comic books, I recommend enthusiastically Michael Chabon's 'The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay'. Chabon won a pulitzer prize for this lively and immensely entertaining novel which explores the role of comics in America's conception of self during the 1940s and 50s.
