'Hunger Games' a little bit 'The Most Dangerous Game'
Books & Movies, posted by Editor, Pleasanton Weekly Online, on Mar 26, 2012 at 5:59 pm

"The Hunger Games" is a little bit "The Most Dangerous Game," a little bit "Lord of the Flies," a little bit "The Truman Show," and a whole lot "Battle Royale," the Japanese novel-turned-film about teens forced to battle to the death.

My daughter and I stood in line for almost two hours. The theatre was packed with not a single available seat left open. The viewing audience was unbelievably well behaved. In fact, you could have heard a pin drop with the exception of the snoring that was taking place all around us.

A superb bit of advance marketing for this film, which will go into the film annals as the film 'Hunger Games'.

My daughter asked how Katniss was able to drop a wasp nest upon an opponent, and then wrestle the bow out of the opponent's hand while the opponent was being stung to death by thousands of wasps, and not get so much as a single sting herself. I told her that it was because Katniss was wearing a special perfume that repelled roboticized wasps.

I took my grandkids to the film and we had a real hoot. Golly, it's not everyday your grandkids get to see the spectacle of hungry poor people's kids killing other hungry poor people's kids for the enjoyment of those of the upper class. I rate it four happy underpants stars.

Pauline, in the book, Katniss does get some stings but not enough to be fatal.

it's my impression from the previews that it's a crummy flick...
