In researching the blurb on johnny mikus, arrested on his birthday for selling marijuana to a minor, I found two other recent graduates of our local high scools all arrested around the same timeline as johnny for drugs and/or alcohol. Mitchell rosenberg and ethan gould. If reading this isnt justification for dope dog searches at our high schools I dont know what is. Cant wait to see the pups on campus!

although I definitely agree with the drug sniffing dogs going to the high schools, I do not agree with posting names of people arrested, no matter what their ages are. These people (innocent till proven guilty) have families and siblings in Pleasanton or the surrounding area and it can cause major grief and difficulty for them if you announce who they are. We all know there is a big drug problem..let the police do their work and leave the names out of it.

@jane There is a caveat in the article about those arrested being innocent until proven guilty, however arrest records of adults, anyone over the age of 18, are public record, available to anyone, with or without a computer. With your reasoning, everyone, everywhere arrested for a crime, no matter how henious or minor, should not have their name listed in the media. I can see it now..."Anonymous was arrested in the shooting death of JFK", "Anonymous was arrested for having sex with her student" etc. etc. Minors names are not revealed.

Nancy S and Jane, you're both skirting the real issue. 17 year-olds are smoking marijuana in this town, and it's a huge problem.

@adam. I wasnt skirting the issue of underage drug use, which I am against. My original comment was addressing how 3 recent pleasanton high school grads were arrested for drug and/or alcohol possesion. I said I was looking forward to the drug dogs on campus

I'll support 'Dope Dogs' in our schools just as soon as they implement Breathalyzers in the work place. I could almost guarantee there are more hypocritical parents out there than pot smoking high schoolers.

If parents did their jobs as parents, there wouldn't be any need for drug dogs.

Why is it OK to trade freedom for security? Does that create a better society?

Completely innocent people getting caught up in it, having their reputations ruined for no reason at all is a perfectly good reason not to do it. It happened to a personal friend who, like me, had never even tried marijuana. False positives happen. If drug dogs are used in Pleasanton schools, I will work to bring a lawsuit. That much you can count on.

Jane, it happens with false positives too. Drug dog should not be on our campuses, period.

No, it doesn't.

Many of these parents should be arrested for neglect, in my opinion.

How in the heck can someone steal all hose rackets without someone noticing ... I mean they can't fit down her pants ... these are some pretty sneaky thieves. No wonder you can't trust no one today.

Unless you are harkening back to your experiences during Prohibition, last time I checked, alcohol use is not illegal, but pot is. Your condoning pot use among school age kids is an admission of your lack of respect for the law and for those you live near, especially school kids.

What I find very hypocritical is that I would bet most of the people calling for drug sniffing dogs were probably stoned most of their high school years. I remember High School (back in the 70's), drunk or stoned students were the norm.

I'm not saying it's ok for students to smoke on campus, but parents really need to talk to their kids and stop expecting the rest of society to raise their kids.
