We Now Have a CONSTITUTIONAL CRISIS! Lawless President Acts Outside Bounds of Constitution...
State, National, International, posted by Very Concerned, a resident of the Amador Estates neighborhood, on Jan 5, 2012 at 4:58 pm

Pleasantonians, please inform yourselves (if you haven't already) of the current developments regarding Obama's decision to make "recess" appointments. The problem is that the Senate is NOT in recess.

This is potentially a very very dangerous development. Obama is now assuming authority HE DOES NOT HAVE LEGALLY by our US Constitution. He is DISREGARDING THE CHECKS AND BALANCES of our federal government branches.

These recent developments are consistent with a dictator. If this continues, there are no bounds beyond which he will not go.

"Also, our mainstream media will not cover this disturbing news!" This item was on CNN, NBC and PBS yesterday. As was noted by all the constitutional scholars interviewed on the three broadcasts that I saw, the legality of the move by the president will be decided in the courts.

I support the president in this action. We have a do-nothing congress controlled by conservative factions willing to put this country in peril to further their own political agendas and careers. I am sick of the brinksmanship and stalling. I cheerfully take Obama's side on this one.

i don't understand what the crisis is all about?

Please. Send your extreme right-wing Rush Limbaugh and other links to someone who wants to read them. Stop polluting the Pleasanton Weekly site with them.

I don't take Rush Limbaugh seriously. Even Rush Limbaugh doesn't take Rush Limbaugh seriously. If you take him seriously, the joke is on you. As for Rush? He's laughing all the way to the bank - at your expense.

I dunno Sam. Aren't you failing to analyze the audience? Seems to me that this PW site is exactly where such tripe finds its home.

Posted by Cholo, a resident of Livermore, on Jan 5, 2012 at 9:55 pm

are you referring to tripe as in menudo?

Hominy grits you think we see?

Gesh! You "Obama is to blame for everything" guys are getting ridiculous. You don't have one candidate worth a penny at a flea market and you still insist that it's HIS stupidity at work ... gotta look in the mirror and begin blaming the real villain.

Bush did this far more often. The GOP is aghast with an appointment for a position THAT THEY CREATED! Just more lameore political theater from Republicons.

Freaking hilarious! You linked to Rush Limbaugh as a source?! LMAO!

Not that it's even relevant but your pal Bushie made 171 recess appointments. Please justify your outrage other than saying Obama is a Democrat.

Apparently, Very Concerned doesn't think it counts when Repubs do it.

Very Concerned probably isn't even aware that Bushie did all those recess appointments. After all, it isn't something Rush would tell him. That's the problem with using those "news" sources.

Posted by Very Concerned, a resident of the Amador Estates neighborhood, on Jan 6, 2012 at 9:47 pm

Janna...you are wrong.

The difference is that the recess appointments by Obama were made when the Senate was not in recess. Do your homework, Janna. This is typical decision-making of an out-of-control dictator.

The biggest dictator was Bushie, hands down. Or should I say Cheney? Obama could never touch them in that department. I know Rush told you it was bad so it must be true, right? You have no credibility.

Very Concerned- you really call Pro Forma sessions as Congress being in session? This is just a stunt by GOP to again block anything our President attempts to do to help this country. Watch here as a Dem. attempts to join in on this so called "session" he was not allowed, the session ended 2 min. later. Web Link

If this is how you view the GOP as getting things done, than that says it all.

You expletive-deleted marxists (i.e. Democrats) are all in favor of our Constitutional "checks and balance system" of the three branches of the fed govt, EXCEPT when these checks and balances don't work to your advantage.

Be careful what you endorse or approve of. This is clearly against the constitution and left unchecked will impact future appointees. Consider this, a few years from now we have a very conservative President and he decides that 4 members of the Supreme Court are to liberal so he bypasses congress, fires them, and replaces them with uberconservatives. Be careful, because you reap what you sow.

Hmmm, Supreme court justices cannot be fired. Period. Any hypothetical with that as an opening statement is too absurdist to respond to.

The only disturbing aspect of this whole chapter is how opponents of the president framed the discussion as a power grab rather than what it actually was -- a power vacuum on their part.

The president filled a position created by this very same congress as allowed by the constitution. The determination of "in recess" is relevant only for the obstructionists in that body and future constitutional law students.

Between these shenanigans and the efforts of the same group of conservatives to block the continuation of middle class tax breaks, the republicans have lost in November. Period.

I just LOVE when you guys project. This is purely a case of you not getting your way. Repubs like to pretend to be the victims, but you're actually all predators, preying on anyone you can.

Can hardly wait until this idiot Obama is out of office and adults are in control. Worst president in history. By the way neighbor, read the federalist papers and you will find that Supreme Court Justices can be replaced. Do your homework.

Posted by Patriot, a resident of the Another Pleasanton neighborhood neighborhood, on Jan 9, 2012 at 10:05 pm

"read the federalist papers"

You're joking, right? Those aren't laws. They are essentially OP-ED pieces.
