Justified or denial of rights?

The BART protest expected Friday didn't happen, probably because BART shut down cell service for the day and the protest organizers couldn't, well, get organized. Some say BART's actions are justified because it was for public safety. Some say it's "Egypt-like." Is it justified?

In the UK, PM Cameron is considering blocking social media if the riots continue. Then-President Hosni Mubarak did this in Egypt to retain power. Is the UK situation different?
