Put the iPad down and let the kids loose at a local regional park. It'll be much more educational and fun for them.

Chris and Kylie's Mom, try google-ing "educational iPad apps". I did that and several very good websites popped up. There's no reason why your children can't enjoy the technology that we do. The iPad can be an educational tool! I have seen 2-4 yr olds sharpen their motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and cognitive abilities on an iPhone first hand. We live in a new age... use the technology! I learned my times tables from a plastic toy. Why not let them learn on an iPad?

Stacey has a point! " New Age" Technology will not teach your kids social skills and behavior! ..

As a local pediatrician and mom - the iPad is not the problem. We limit the total 'technology' time at home and let the kids choose their item. Our kids prefer the iPad over any TV or other computer game. We do not allow video games on our iPad. We also do not put books on it, as reading a real book seems healthier. We like the new Pottery game, cut the rope, math bingo, scrabble, and zentano (tetris like) My daugher also loved Stack the States and knows all of her states and capitals at age 5. We often play it together. WAY BETTER than watching TV. It is no different than junk food - everything in moderation. We are a very active outdoor family - do lots of arts and crafts as well as read every night. It is very helpful for parents to share the good apps to avoid the mindless video games....

Try looking for "The Monster at the End of this Book". My 5-year old daughter loves it.

Try Angry bird. My 4-year-old son loves it. I just let him choose either TV or iPad, and limit the time to 30mins a day.
