Welcome to Pleasanton.
We live off Vineyard Ave. and have noticed the police lining up an searching mostly youth several times in the last month along Vineyard, mainly at the park.
I wonder if this is a sign or a trend?
It's neither a "sign" nor a "trend". The Vineyard corridor between 1st St. and Bernal has been the most affordable (to be politically correct) part of Pleasanton for decades. It's attracted some undesirables who participate in drugs, drinking, vandalism, and other mischievous behaviour. Of course, this can occur in any part of Pleasanton, and is not directly connected to a particular socio-economic class, however I have observed over the decades some questionable happenings in this particular area. Ultimately, I'd like to see an increase in Ptown police presence in this area.
this incident almost put a damper on the Village High School graduation ceremonies since 2 participants and a victim are students. Too bad this stuff is happening more frequently in Pleasanton. Glad the guy got caught. I hope Police will patrol this area more and on a regular basis, can't let it get worse, would like to keep our small town safe.
This guy was in that gang from a few years back. It was Pleasanton's first gang. Read about it here:
I am a resident of the "vineyard corridor" as referenced above. This might be the most affordable area of Pleasanton, but I disagree that it is as bad as described as above. There is a large working class population in this area who do just that, work. I am not denying that there are drugs, drinking and vandalism; but unfortunately, these behaviors exist elsewhere in Pleasanton also. As proud Pleasanton residents, we need to be vigilant with this sort of activity. If anyone read the gang article from the attached link above, there is a quote from the article that I really like, "We want to make it clear: They picked the wrong community to engage in this type of activity." This is exactly right, this is the WRONG community to mess with. As proud residents, let's not be afraid to stand up for our community. If we see something happening that we don't like or agree with, let's take care of it. Don't mess with Pleasanton!
This kid is a coward and a punk. It's pretty easy to bring a knife to a fist fight isn't it? I would be more than happy to go toe to toe with any of the other punks involved in this incident. And to any of the other self proclaimed "can't be faded" gang members...take your sorry little a** out of our community! We don't have room for you here. You guys are a waste of space and you're all worthless little chumps.
I went to school with him and worked with him (comment edited by PW for libelous content). It is so sad this kid has sweet parents and look at the shame he has brought to them. I cant believe the police think this is not "gang related!" Ofcourse it's gang related there is no way 10 random people would fight unless it was gang related. Pleasanton police needs to put an end to the stupid little gangs put together by bratty kids who have great opportunities and pass them up to ruin pleasanton with there stupid wanna-be bad a** attitudes. We know where these kids hang out so lets bust them!
David has wonderful parents. They have always been loving and involved trying to straighten David out. David has let them down, I am sorry for them.
Everyone needs to understand that this incident was NOT Gang related! I t all happened in less the 5 min, it really was truly random and no colors were involved at all! David was just pissed off that he couldnt fight and was a little tired of getting his head pounded on so he stupidly decides to use a knife. Now the idiot is going 2 jail 4 a long time, Good he deserves everything that the judge gives him! It started out a 3 on 2 fight and escalated in to a 6 to 10 man fight after people witnessed it going on! Once again NOT GANG RELATED!!!
the two boys who where stabbed are in a gang and they call themselves surrenos who wear blue. david and all the losers who hang out there on vinyard who are NOT part of the "surrenos" either try and claim CBF or TRY AN BE A "norteno" wearing red which are rivals. AND ALL FAKE IF THERE FROM PLEASANTON! since the vinyard kids wear all these red colors, this intimidates the surrenos and the SURRENOS feel that they have to "mug" or ask the loW lifes what they bang. OF COURSE THEY DONT HAVE THAT RIGHT SO THAT PISSES THE NEUTRALS OFF. ANY( AND I MEAN ANY PERSON) person wearin red or thinks that they are HARD LOOKING BETTER WATCH OUT CAUSE THEY'LL TRY AN MESS WITH YOU. the surrenos think they have this right because IN THIS SPECIFIC AREA many of them live and associate. come on havent you ever seeing all those mexicans wearing blue and HANGING it in front of the houses or at BOBS BURGERS LIKE THEY OWN THE PLACE?! IM SORRY BUT IN MY KNOWLEDGE NOT OPINION BOTH (comment edited by PW) SHOULD GROW UP AND STOP HANGIN AROUND TRYING TO QUESTION OTHER PEOPLE. ITS A FREE WORLD SO STOP TRYING TO MAKE ALL THESE CLICKS AND LEAVE EACH OTHER THE ALONE..........
DAVID CAN STAND UP FOR HIMSELF, EVERYONE KNOWS THAT. THOSE SURRENOS JUST INTIMIDATE HIM AND LIKEWISE. SO I FORGOT TO ADD, IT ALL COMES DOWN TO GANGS, DRUGS, TERRITORY, AND JUST PLAIN LOSER PEOPLE! SO WHOEVER SAYS IT WAS NOT GANG RELATED, YOUR AN IDIOT. IVE BEEN PART(NO LONGER ASSOCIATE WITH LOSERS) AND HAVE BEEN SEEING BOTH SIDES FOR YEARS AND YEARS. SO, SCRAPS YOU DONT RUN (comment edited by PW) IN PLEASANTON AND ALL YOU LIL CHAPS RUNNIN AROUND JUST STOP CAUSE YOU REALLLLLLLLLLYYYYY ARE EMBARASSING YOURSELVES. PLEASANTON IS A SAFE COMMUNITY AND IF YOU WERE IN OAKLAND OR LA ALLLLLLLLL OF YOU WOULD BE DEAD... REAL TALK.
That's the joke, right? How pathetic can a person be playing "gang" in Pleasanton, of all places?! I mean, it's PLEASANTON, for God's sake!
It's not a joke when our kids are afraid at school.
My kids and their friends have been saying they are afraid of the Mexican gangs at PMS and Amador for about four years now.
Thanks for that web link from back on June 13. Interesting to read initial police comments "police don't believe it was related to gang violence," only to see the perpetrator was arrested, charged and jailed for gang activity in 2004.....as reported in the San Francisco Chronicle.
I am a resident of Vineyard Avenue up towards Bernal...I feel safe in the complex where I live but I am always aware of my surroundings...what bothers me is why everyone has to call everyone losers....people are human beings that make mistakes, people are insecure and they don't know which direction to turn, people don't always make the right decisions and regret it later, people are not losers....just misguided, scared and lacking some faith that there is a better way......I know as a parent that struggled with what you might call a "loser" that he is not at all and sometimes our surroundings and the people we end up hanging out with have a huge effect on us and we don't always know what to do...young men have anger as well and they don't know how to find help....so we are children of God, born innocent and hopefully learn from our mistakes...there are no losers, just humans.....
David screwed up and now he's going to prison. That's where he belongs, behind bars for a long time, NO MERCY!
If your kids are afraid at school, think about taking them to school, pick them up after school and maintain an open relationship with their teachers and principal. Keep the issue of gangs on the table with the Board of Education and the police. Gangs members act out and your children are at risk, don't let anybody tell you that they're not. Your children are always at risk in the presence of gangs.
Educate your children about what they must do to reduce any risk. Have a family plan to deal with any emergencies. Find out about how the school handles a gang related incident.
In the past, I've been told to "go back where you came from!" For some reason, many Plutonians think that I'm from Mexico. Lots of derogatory comments about Mexicans have been made on this blog. Mexicans read this blog and they know that they are hated by many Plutonians. Gangs exist for a reason and they are not going away. Like they say, aqui estamos y no nos vamos...
Cholo, once again you are making this a raciel issue....quit being a victim here...not everyone from Pleasanton or Mars for that matter cares if you are black, white, green, brown or yellow....Mexicans and other cultures are not the only ones who work hard. I am white as snow, from Pleasanton, not priveleged work my but off 6 days a week just to make ends meet like alot of other people/cultures....And just because someone is white and doing well, well maybe they were just smart with their money and got ahead...I had to learn some hard lessons...Alot of different cultures put it on themselves by walking around with bad attitutdes....There are white people like that too....I have plenty of friends, black, brown, whatever who are good people and if treated kindly, will treat you kindly back...
Gosh darn chris...I would sure love to live on your plantation ...it sounds down right fair...tee hee hee, tee hee hee...
Keep working hard and paying into Social Security so that I receive a monthly check...how do you like them apples?
How you managed to distort what I posted is beyond me...are you troubled about something? Maybe it's YOUR black 'n white thinking?
Like you enjoy saying...G_d bless! Tee hee hee, tee hee hee...
Dear PT Parent: If your kids are "afraid" at school, consider speaking with their teachers/principal. Fear of the school environment could make it more difficult for your child to learn. Bullies, of all races/ethnicities, intimidate students and sometimes teachers and the principal are not aware of what is happening with your particular child.
If there is a PTA at your child's school, try to put the issue on the agenda at the next meeting. Consider inviting the police as they might have suggestions that you find very helpful in protecting your children.
In my opinion, it is best for children to walk to school/home with companions. Risk to your children is often reduced when they are not alone.
I would not underestimate the willingness of gang members to harm innocent others. It is simply unfair and should not be tolerated in any community.
Healthy children are one of the greatest gifts to the world. Make a family/community plan to insure their safety.
I recall a time in Buenos Aires when tens of thousands of people disappeared. Many where students, children and even infants. Nothing was done to protect them. Maybe the world has forgotten but those of us who fled and survived cannot forget. Above all, children must be safe from anybody who would harm them. No mercy for the offenders.
I see the problem being that many people fear what they see as "different" and consider it a threat. With fear based thinking comes a survival mentality which ones serves to fuel more acting tough in order to not be viewed as weak or become victims, protecting their "turf" or "hood and "mugging" giving rude or provoking looks to or making hateful and durogatory remarks to other races as they walk or drive past them. This may be called a "gang" or simply young people who haven't yet learned or choose not to have tolerance and respect for others.
People need to understand that this type of behavior can and often does lead to senseless violence like the incident in this article. Educate your children about how they treat others and how to avoid becoming a victim without turning into a racist or violent person.
The police are aware of the Norteno and Soreno population here in Pleasanton, and they are also aware of the other groups that also have the same type of "gang" mentality. They stick together in groups because they have less of a risk of getting jumped if they are not alone. I see this as being an issue of personal safety for these young people because they are feeling threatened. This is why many young people join gangs, for a sense of "protection" and belonging to something, like a family only with the dangers of drugs and violence being the main theme. There is a solution, but we will only find it when we search for it together as a community and stop being racist and realize that it is not an issue of race but of attitudes.
If Livermore police dept has its own gang unit, I dont see why Pleasanton police doesn't have its own gang unti also. Maybe the city council should start addressing these issues. Maybe concerned citizens should attend those meetings, voice their ideas and collectively come up with a pro-active plan to implement some strategies to back up the "community of character" they would like to see in Pleasanton.
Also, I think drug dealers have a gang mentality. They surround themselves with younger teens and kids. The dealers provide them with drugs and alcohol in exchange for their loyalty. Most of the kids they "recruit" look up to them as role models because they always have money. Many of the kids/teens come from abusive and/or are poor backgrounds making them easy prey for the dealers and the allure of money. It makes me sick to think of these predators out their exploiting our kids for their own personal gain, and it makes me even sicker to think of the ruined futures of those who fall prey to them.
typo.. should have read:
"With fear based thinking comes a survival mentality which ONLY serves to fuel more..."
All i have to say about this is that i know the people that got stabb and they are hard working people and they are not GANG related what so ever they are nice people but if you look at the others they say they are in the gang CBF and have a whole list of crimes they have done here in Pleasanton. These students were getting ready to leave to graduation when out of no where David came and pulled out his knife and stabb two guys i think that if his guy is that taught to pull out a knife and stabb two guys he should be taught enough to spend some years in jail. Another thing Davids girlfriend keeps coming back and driving around here and starts yelling nasty words i mean really bad words to the boys. I dont think that necessary for someone to keep doing that her boyfriend should of thaught of the consequences and she should just stay away. iam an old lady and i do not like hearing when this young girl drives by and starts yelling for no reason if they are not doing anything to her. I think that the PPD did a great job for arresting David the next day.
