Landlords paying big $$$$$ to push 98 out & 99 in
State, National, International, posted by Pleasanton RENTER, a resident of the Vineyard Avenue neighborhood, on May 16, 2008 at 10:36 pm

On June 3rd 2 IMPORTANT propositions are on your ballot.

>

California RENTERS need to be aware: Proposition 98 and Proposition 99

>

Issues with Prop 98: it will ELIMINATE Rent Control...completely. It will also WIPE OUT basic protection for ALL RENTERS and the Eminent Domain Provisions are extremely flawed.

>

STATE RECORDS SHOW that apartment and mobile home park landlords ARE PAYING MILLIONS to get this on the ballot. Another 10K was paid on MAY 15th. That is most likely why it is not on the November ballot. They figure fewer voters will turn out in June.

>

Issues with Prop 99: it was written to kill Prop 98 and Controls use of Eminent Domain – helps protect your private property and home.

>

READ THESE 2 Props CAREFULLY!

>

We sincerely hope that our City Council will back us. Check out the web link below to see lists of those backing our side of these propositions. The other option - HUNDREDS of homeless in Pleasanton. I don't want to be homeless. Neither do my neighbors. We MUST help one another. We MUST fight back! Vote! Vote! Vote! Tell your friends & neighbors too,

>

Vote: NO on 98

Vote: YES on 99

Can these Prop 98 and 99 topics be consolidated into the pre-existing ones? There's now like 5 different topics on this. Posters should use the existing threads instead of starting new ones.

We could, but it gets buried, and we want people to be aware of this proposition, and remember vote no on 98 yes on 99.

I can bet you there will be other topic on this also...if you don't like it just scroll down....

Stacey,

Would I be right in guessing that you own your home and do not rent...correct? We need you to help us...we need you to see our plight. We need you to care.

While every CA renter will be part of this, I live in a senior park. We are scared for ourselves and for our neighbors. Many here are retired and on social security. Some have been living here many years and get very little each month. If they REMOVE rent control, there may well be many new homeless people in Pleasanton. We don't want to be, but the rents will go up and we are stretched now.

Now can you see why we are concerned? Perhaps if there are several blogs, they will show several views, giving people a chance to understand just how UNFAIR and downright CONFUSING Prop 98 & 99 really are.

Notice in the Living (Real Estate Section) of this weeks Pleasanton Weekly the article on the CA Association of Realtors by Jeb Bing. The realtors are the 'other side' of these Propositions. THEY are LANDLORDS. Of course they want Props 98 & 99 to go the other way. Why??? $$$$$ in their pockets!

I hope you will read up on 98-99, see for yourself and vote with your heart. Keep the renters in mind.

We are young adults wanting to stay in CA near home.

We are parents that cannot afford to buy a home.

We are grandparents, downsizing as we retire and need to live on SS.

We are your neighbors.

We are real.

Part of the reason I started a new post...I find all caps hard to read and distracting.

To all who support us, by voting June 3rd with: No on 98 - Yes on 99

We thank you!

Sharon

Bravo Sharon, nicely put.

I too hope the City Council will support us in this manner, and all those who have friends, relatives that are being put in this situation.

When these landowners bought these properties that were considered "rent controlled", they knew what they were getting. If they didn't want to be apart of the rent controlled ordinances then they should of bought elsewhere! Sadly, its all about the mighty dollar...or lack of these days...

Living in a senior park.

Is somebody here suggesting that people VOTE NO ON YES?

I DON'T GET IT?
