More detail is found via the Tri Valley Heard at this Web Link. Would this murder at 18 Castlewood Drive also be due to Bart?

Posted by frank, a resident of the Pleasanton Heights neighborhood, on Mar 15, 2008 at 7:02 pm

Not BART, but if you read the article the husband was a vociferous opponent of the San Ramon School District parcel taxes!! Clearly the link is PARCEL TAXES!!!! Look out Pleasanton!

Posted by Bart or Gas, a resident of the Another Pleasanton neighborhood neighborhood, on Mar 16, 2008 at 9:10 am

Frank -- I was posting that for Aaron's benefit. *LOL*

As for the parcel tax connection -- It may be more than that. The husband was ousted some years back from the San Ramon School District. He's been antagonistic since (and that's being kind). So while it may have heated up over proposed parcel taxes, I believe it is bigger than that.

Posted by Anne Anderson, a resident of the Castlewood neighborhood, on Mar 16, 2008 at 12:44 pm

I am glad that you all find this amusing. I live in

Castlewood and knew Charlene & Ernie. Please don't find entertainment at their expense.

Posted by rick, a resident of the Vintage Hills Elementary School neighborhood, on Mar 16, 2008 at 12:46 pm

What is the connection to the parcel tax or Bart?

Did I miss something?

Posted by Stacey, a resident of the Amberwood/Wood Meadows neighborhood, on Mar 16, 2008 at 12:58 pm

Rick,

You missed the discussion happening on other threads regarding the idea that the new BART station bringing more crime to Pleasanton.

Posted by Bart Or Gas, a resident of the Another Pleasanton neighborhood neighborhood, on Mar 17, 2008 at 12:13 pm

Anne Anderson;

I don't find what happened to Charlene & Ernie entertaining in the least. However, as Shelley pointed out, there is another thread that proports another Bart Station will lead to more crime in Pleasanton.

Clearly, what occurred at 18 Castlewood Drive is not due to Bart.

BTW, so much for the safety of a gated community, huh?

Posted by Anne Anderon, a resident of the Castlewood neighborhood, on Mar 17, 2008 at 1:29 pm

Bart or Gas,

You must not be very familar with Castlewood. We are not gated!

Posted by think, a resident of the Another Pleasanton neighborhood neighborhood, on Mar 17, 2008 at 2:24 pm

Bart or Gas, and frank,

How very, very insensitive of you both.

Think before you type.

Posted by live nearby, a resident of the Another Pleasanton neighborhood neighborhood, on Mar 17, 2008 at 5:23 pm

I live nearby in a gated community and I am glad I do. We almost bought in Castlewood but the lack of a gate turned me off to that idea.

I hope they find who did it!

Posted by concerned citizen, a resident of another community, on Mar 17, 2008 at 6:19 pm

It just goes to show you that "gate" or "no gate", you can't guarantee safety. Crime finds its way. Seems like Pleasanton has really been making the headlines. I would think twice about relocating to Pleasanton.

*rolls eyes*

Here we go again with the predictable cliches. Allow me to add some more before anyone else: "Shame on you, Frank and Bart or Gas!" "My thoughts and prayers are with the family."

Posted by neighbor, a resident of another community, on Mar 17, 2008 at 7:56 pm

THERE GOES THE NEIGHBORHOOD!

Posted by Anne Anderson, a resident of the Castlewood neighborhood, on Mar 17, 2008 at 8:03 pm

How can you make lite of this "there goes the neighborhood"! Did you read the story they were beaten to death. How sick are you? Do you think any of the neighbors are worried about their house values? No, we are worried that this is some random killer that is loose. These were our friends and neighbors and we are all in shock and so very sad that this happened. Please show some compassion for them....

Posted by Stacey, a resident of the Amberwood/Wood Meadows neighborhood, on Mar 17, 2008 at 8:39 pm

More cliches! LOL!

BTW, I hardly think this is an event caused by a random killer. Given the new details that came out today, this is sounding more like some sort of home invasion robbery where the killer knew or knew of this couple in some way.

Posted by Shelley, a resident of the Downtown neighborhood, on Mar 17, 2008 at 9:52 pm

People deal with uncomfortable and saddening circumstances in different ways. I always try to make light of a situation and try to find the comedy of it. It helps me deal with it. Doing so is in no way disrespectful. It is just a way for some people with a particular chronic disposition deal with things. It's obvious that the tone and mood of the first couple of postings were not very well conveyed in this online format of communication.

LIKE I SAID SOME PEOPLE IN PLEASANTON NEED TO GROW UP. FRANK ARRON STACEY CHOLO SHELLY BART ETC YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOUR SELVES

Posted by Bart or Gas, a resident of the Another Pleasanton neighborhood neighborhood, on Mar 18, 2008 at 9:18 am

Get Real -- I will let you be ashamed for me.

I regret not fully understanding that Castlewood was not "gated." But I'm not ashamed.

Posted by chris, a resident of the Amberwood/Wood Meadows neighborhood, on Mar 18, 2008 at 9:46 am

People, what is all the arguing for????? This is a tragedy and a family is suffering, can't we just come together as a community and just focus on letting the authorities do their work and find the killer. Why is everyhing a debate, wouldn't it be nice if just once we could come together...but I guess John Lennon only believed that.

Posted by Stacey, a resident of the Amberwood/Wood Meadows neighborhood, on Mar 18, 2008 at 10:49 am

I think I'll go re-read all the Katie and Laurel threads.

Posted by aaron, a resident of the Highland Oaks neighborhood, on Mar 18, 2008 at 12:14 pm

this is my first posting on this topic yet my name is in here a few times. why would anyone discuss bart or anything else on a topic like this. this is the worst thing to happen in years. this is very sad. beaten to death and people are making wise cracks and jokes. you discust me bart or gas, no wonder we are on different sides of the fence. people like you are worthless. taking joy out of others misery. bring topics into something have to do with your little tiffs elsewhere. you are pathetic, get a life. mind your own business, and hope that people don't recognize your views. i have no clue how anyone can take this litely. my deepest condolences go out to the family and neighbors of Charlene & Ernie. i know many residence in castlewood, and this is a shame, no matter where it happend. i hope the sheriffs dept. crack this case soon. and fry the bastard that beat those nice people to death. to those who think this topic is anyway relating to bart or any other threads on here are retarded.

get real, sorry buddy, this is my first comment on this post, and i definately agree with you.

good luck to alameda county sheriffs dept. and all those who knew the victims. this is terrible. and shame on those who can make lite of this.

Posted by Tracey F., a resident of another community, on Mar 18, 2008 at 12:38 pm

What is wrong with you people? Two people have lost their lives, a son and a daughter have lost their parents. Have we become the kind of community that finds jokes about everything? Jokes about this situation are just cruel and disgusting.

My thoughts are prayers are with the family. God Bless you!

Posted by Pleasanton Resident, a resident of the Another Pleasanton neighborhood neighborhood, on Mar 18, 2008 at 12:48 pm

What evidence has come out that suggests they may have been "targeted" ?

Posted by Matthew, a resident of the Highland Oaks neighborhood, on Mar 18, 2008 at 1:01 pm

wow, not only to the homicide, but wow, to you people on here! i hope you like the ugly person in the mirror. based on your attitudes, no matter what you look like, you are ugly people.

if they were targeted, was it simply due to location? freway? rich neighborhood? or do people this was personal? no matter what it was the police need to catch them fast. i am not a fan of murder, though it seems others on here are so desensitized that they find this funny. sick mofo's, sick!!!!!!!!!! BART OR GAS THIS IS TO YOU!!! WHY DON'T YOU STATE YOUR NAME, OR NEIGHBORHOOD? DO YOU THINK PEOPLE WILL HATE YOUR VIEWS THAT MUCH THAT YOU DON'T WANT THEM HAVING AN IDEA OF WHO YOU ARE? POSSIBLY YOU FOOL!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'M GLAD YOU DID THIS ON THIS PAGE, SO PEOPLE THAT MIGHT HAVE AGREED WITH YOU CAN SEE WHAT AN A$$ YOU REALLY ARE.

i'm so sorry to the family and neighbors. you shouldn't even have to look at this, i was just sickened by these people on here, and their ability to not care, that people just got killed. god bless and good luck!!

Posted by raven, a resident of the Another Pleasanton neighborhood neighborhood, on Mar 18, 2008 at 1:30 pm

"Targeted" means from the new report that the couple's son was a gambler and this murder could have been a pay back for a debt not paid.

Posted by Stacey, a resident of the Amberwood/Wood Meadows neighborhood, on Mar 18, 2008 at 1:35 pm

I haven't decided which is worse, 1) the appearance of insensitivity to the tragedy by Bart or Gas and Frank or 2) the ridicule heaped upon others for the possible social faux pas or 3) the predictability of this thread. This thread should be closed down by PW before it gets anymore like the Katie and Laurel threads. Numbers 1, 2, and 3 are all equally disrespectful to the victims of this tragedy.

Posted by Pleasanton Resident-QWERTY, a resident of the Another Pleasanton neighborhood neighborhood, on Mar 18, 2008 at 1:37 pm

Do you have a link to the article where it said the son was a gambler? I too would find it hard to believe this was just a random act. Considering the reports that it was a "brutal" murder, I don't think it was robbery. If a robber were afraid of getting caught they wouldn't have gone to the trouble to kill someone in a "brutal" way (whatever that may have meant in this case).

Posted by Matthew, a resident of the Amberwood/Wood Meadows neighborhood, on Mar 18, 2008 at 1:43 pm

Raven and Pleasanton Resident,

Ah, finally two people who want to actually talk about the topic. As I tried to bring up in an earlier post, it sounds like this isn't some random killing. Criminals don't normally randomly make the trip out of their way to an upscale neighborhood to commit homicide. They had to have known or known of the couple in some way and you'll see the sheriff's department investigating along those lines.

Posted by Stacey, a resident of the Amberwood/Wood Meadows neighborhood, on Mar 18, 2008 at 1:48 pm

Pleasanton Resident,

Here's a link talking about the son being a professional poker player: Web Link

BTW, The above post is mine. I accidentally typed "Matthew" since I was thinking about responding to his own ugly name calling and ridiculing.

Posted by raven, a resident of the Another Pleasanton neighborhood neighborhood, on Mar 18, 2008 at 1:52 pm

NBC11 news website.

< Police said the couple's son was a professional poker player and they are looking into the possibility that the attack was a gambling debt. >

It is so sad that this has happened. A couple who have raised the children and were experiencing life with each other. Never did they believe that their lives would end like this.

Random killings are quite rare actually, usually done by either a gang for an initation purposes or a serial killing.

Posted by Gatetree Resident, a member of the Amador Valley High School community, on Mar 18, 2008 at 2:10 pm

Clarification. The Web Link Stacy shared indicates the following:

"Scherer was a former San Ramon Valley school board member and real estate investor who dabbled at high-stakes professional poker. He was also a reliable Republican volunteer, acquaintances said.

Scherer's son, Ernest Scherer III, is a professional poker player, authorities said. They said they were exploring whether poker connections to the father or son had anything to do with the killings."

Police are exploring both gambling/poker connections.

This is very sad. Unfortunate. My thoughts are with the surviving camily members.

Posted by Matthew, a resident of the Highland Oaks neighborhood, on Mar 18, 2008 at 2:18 pm

stacy are you bart or gas? than why would it bother you? people on here care more about gossip than than a true discussion. gossip queens. i guess while most of us are at work the housewife needs something to do. i'm at a desk so i have a few minutes here and there.

this is a police investigation. not a civilian one, if we need a militia, we'll let you know. aside from that let the police do their job.

if it was gambling debt let the police figure it out, don't soil peoples names saying he's responsible for the deaths unless you actually knwo for a fact. very misleading

To: get real - GO BLOW YOU NOSE!

Until now, I have remained quiet.

You and concerned citizen must be one and the same....THE BEAST....BE GONE...GO AWAY DEVIL...I SAY BE GONE. BETTER YET, WHY NOT HOP ON BART AND GO FIND SOME CULTURE IN OAKLAND.

This has gone on long enough! PW needs to pull the plug. Shame on all who are not sympathetic to this tragedy.

That's what John Lennon wished for.

Posted by Shelley, a resident of the Downtown neighborhood, on Mar 18, 2008 at 3:47 pm

I've decided this to be worse:

"2) the ridicule heaped upon others for the possible social faux pas"

If this was some kind a retaliation killing, I wonder how the murderer(s) was able to find the home address of the parents.

A little sexist, aren't we, Matthew? Maybe you should look at yourself in the mirror...

shelley grow up. being a little judgemental of victoms, and their family aren't we. being so jolly about murder is fun huh?

Posted by raven, a resident of the Another Pleasanton neighborhood neighborhood, on Mar 18, 2008 at 4:53 pm

Maybe you all need to go off this thread and start a new one. There are a few of us that would like to discuss this event and are tired of this adolescent bashing of each other. On the other thread we are posting about kids acting out and getting into fights. Let's rise above what the kids think is ok and not verbally fight on this thread anymore.
