The Alameda County Sheriff's office is investigating the deaths of two individuals found this afternoon in a home on Castlewood Drive near the Castlewood Country Club.

Not BART, but if you read the article the husband was a vociferous opponent of the San Ramon School District parcel taxes!! Clearly the link is PARCEL TAXES!!!! Look out Pleasanton!

As for the parcel tax connection -- It may be more than that. The husband was ousted some years back from the San Ramon School District. He's been antagonistic since (and that's being kind). So while it may have heated up over proposed parcel taxes, I believe it is bigger than that.

I don't find what happened to Charlene & Ernie entertaining in the least. However, as Shelley pointed out, there is another thread that proports another Bart Station will lead to more crime in Pleasanton.
Clearly, what occurred at 18 Castlewood Drive is not due to Bart.

It just goes to show you that "gate" or "no gate", you can't guarantee safety. Crime finds its way. Seems like Pleasanton has really been making the headlines. I would think twice about relocating to Pleasanton.

How can you make lite of this "there goes the neighborhood"! Did you read the story they were beaten to death. How sick are you? Do you think any of the neighbors are worried about their house values? No, we are worried that this is some random killer that is loose. These were our friends and neighbors and we are all in shock and so very sad that this happened. Please show some compassion for them....

BTW, I hardly think this is an event caused by a random killer. Given the new details that came out today, this is sounding more like some sort of home invasion robbery where the killer knew or knew of this couple in some way.

People deal with uncomfortable and saddening circumstances in different ways. I always try to make light of a situation and try to find the comedy of it. It helps me deal with it. Doing so is in no way disrespectful. It is just a way for some people with a particular chronic disposition deal with things. It's obvious that the tone and mood of the first couple of postings were not very well conveyed in this online format of communication.

This is a tragedy and a family is suffering, can't we just come together as a community and just focus on letting the authorities do their work and find the killer. Why is everyhing a debate, wouldn't it be nice if just once we could come together...but I guess John Lennon only believed that.

this is my first posting on this topic yet my name is in here a few times. why would anyone discuss bart or anything else on a topic like this. this is the worst thing to happen in years. this is very sad. beaten to death and people are making wise cracks and jokes. you discust me bart or gas, no wonder we are on different sides of the fence. people like you are worthless. taking joy out of others misery. bring topics into something have to do with your little tiffs elsewhere. you are pathetic, get a life. mind your own business, and hope that people don't recognize your views. i have no clue how anyone can take this litely. my deepest condolences go out to the family and neighbors of Charlene & Ernie. i know many residence in castlewood, and this is a shame, no matter where it happend. i hope the sheriffs dept. crack this case soon. and fry the bastard that beat those nice people to death. to those who think this topic is anyway relating to bart or any other threads on here are retarded.

What is wrong with you people? Two people have lost their lives, a son and a daughter have lost their parents. Have we become the kind of community that finds jokes about everything? Jokes about this situation are just cruel and disgusting.

I haven't decided which is worse, 1) the appearance of insensitivity to the tragedy by Bart or Gas and Frank or 2) the ridicule heaped upon others for the possible social faux pas or 3) the predictability of this thread. This thread should be closed down by PW before it gets anymore like the Katie and Laurel threads. Numbers 1, 2, and 3 are all equally disrespectful to the victims of this tragedy.

Do you have a link to the article where it said the son was a gambler? I too would find it hard to believe this was just a random act. Considering the reports that it was a "brutal" murder, I don't think it was robbery. If a robber were afraid of getting caught they wouldn't have gone to the trouble to kill someone in a "brutal" way (whatever that may have meant in this case).

Ah, finally two people who want to actually talk about the topic. As I tried to bring up in an earlier post, it sounds like this isn't some random killing. Criminals don't normally randomly make the trip out of their way to an upscale neighborhood to commit homicide. They had to have known or known of the couple in some way and you'll see the sheriff's department investigating along those lines.

It is so sad that this has happened. A couple who have raised the children and were experiencing life with each other. Never did they believe that their lives would end like this.
Random killings are quite rare actually, usually done by either a gang for an initation purposes or a serial killing.

Scherer's son, Ernest Scherer III, is a professional poker player, authorities said. They said they were exploring whether poker connections to the father or son had anything to do with the killings."
Police are exploring both gambling/poker connections.
This is very sad. Unfortunate. My thoughts are with the surviving camily members.

this is a police investigation. not a civilian one, if we need a militia, we'll let you know. aside from that let the police do their job.
if it was gambling debt let the police figure it out, don't soil peoples names saying he's responsible for the deaths unless you actually knwo for a fact. very misleading

Maybe you all need to go off this thread and start a new one. There are a few of us that would like to discuss this event and are tired of this adolescent bashing of each other. On the other thread we are posting about kids acting out and getting into fights. Let's rise above what the kids think is ok and not verbally fight on this thread anymore.
