Local Resident Denied Service from Local Lumber Yard Around Town, posted by Kevin, a member of the Valley View Elementary School community, on May 30, 2007 at 2:00 pm
I had to put something down, I was so steamed today. I called a local lumber yard/hardware store on Sunol Rd. because the manufacturer of the material on my deck, TREX, asked me to send them a name of where I could pick up material for my warranty claim. I explained to the local establishment that TREX was going to credit them money to cover the entire cost of replacing the material on my deck. There would be no expense to the local lumber yard, although the manager argued with me otherwise and told me I must have a special situation he had never heard of. Yeah, its called a warranty, not that new of a concept.
He basically refused to handle my situation, even though there would be zero cost to them, because he claimed I should of bought from them in the first place and this has nothing to do with the store. He didn't understand that there would be no cost and refused to beleive me. Way to support your local market base!! The only reason I bought elsewhere in the first place was because I was new to Pleasanton and thought they only dealt with contractors.
I realize this lumber yard like to work with contractors for the most part, but do they need to treat the local "do it yourself'er" like an idiot? I mean, I knew what I was talking about and I was being backed by a big company making the same claim...THERE WOULD BE NO COST.

I've shopped at Richerts for yrs. Have found them always polite willing to help and very community oriented. I doubt as a small business owner that I would have honored your request either. You are asking Richert to take on all liability and have them chase Trex to recoup their $$$$$$$$$$$$. Sounds a lil crazy to me...

I thought about using Trex on my deck but the good guys at 84 Lumber told me it fades and is the cheapest synthetic and you get what you pay for. Consumer Reports also rated it poorly. Anyway...Do you real think you can trust people you don't know with money? You should say "Yes Richert is a dealer or 84 is a dealer and Cliff is the managers name. Did you show up and say give me the material you'll get the money from someone else someday? You pay or give the warranty document then get what you want.
