The city's Parks and Recreation Commission voted 5-0 to recommend that the City Council approve a master plan for a new 17-acre community park on the yet-undeveloped Staples Ranch site that would include a 4-sheet recreational and club ice skating facility.

Hi T.H. The commission vote was a year and a half ago. You're right of course that the process continues, but the vote referenced in this story was taken in April 2008.

This new facility is a great opportunity to grow the sport of ice skating and hockey especially. For the individual named jon davis, the notion that this industry is on the decline is absolutely absurd, and comical for that matter. the sport of hockey is growing at such a rapid pace, that for the first time in nhl history a player that grew up in california playing junior hockey was selected first overall in the 2010 entry draft!! for people not in the know, that is monumental since this sport has been dominated by the candians and euro players. we are now seeing a shift in the level of talent coming out of the united states and especially california.
