Has the Pleasanton City Council and/or Planning Commission heard the phase “you can’t make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear”? You also can’t make a piece of art out of a tumble-down, ramshackle, galvanized metal siding warehouse. The Valley Plumbing buildings are an eyesore and that warehouse is an especially bad eyesore. The owner of Valley Plumbing should move his business to a light-industrial area, make a bundle off selling that property, and it should then be redeveloped, along with a number of other eyesores on Peters Ave,into something vital, attractive and suitable for our downtown (i.e. City Hall, Library, theater, ...). The mural looks like it would be very attractive, but a dilapidated warehouse does not a “canvas” make. Livermore is redeveloping their downtown and Pleasanton is painting eyesores.

The mural on the side of the historical building looks quite nice. Also Valley Plumbing is an asset to this community. They value where we came from and the mural shows that.

It actually looks quite nice. I agree not only is Valley Plumbing an asset they have made great use of that space. Wonder why "Around Town" thinks they should move to an industrial area? Apparently this person hasn't been into the store as they sell many high tech, and high end fixtures, faucets, bathtubs etc... just like the Plumery! They also provide fantastic local full service (gas, water, electric), plumbing services.
What a contrast to see the video mentioned here Web Link in the "no place like home" contest in another topic, and then read the comments of "Around Town". Talk about a "the glass is half empty" perspective.

To go for another trite expression, "beauty is in the eye of the beholder". I find the mural beautiful.

I like the mural vs. a blank wall. I think they did their best to make it appropriate for downtown and the sepia tones made it subtle and unobtrussive.

Just because isn't all spiffy and beautiful, dosn't mean it can't serve a purpose. The buildings are historical and if you would like to learn the buildings history, drop in some time. The staff would love to tell you all about the buildings . The family worked very hard to bring the building up to code and yet keep its old town charm. This building holds a lot of memories for many people who used to shop the old Fioro meat market. I would like to see it earn a haritage building plaque.

People get elected to make such decision as painting a barn that will be at some time demolished. If there is extra money in the kitty, haven't you heard that the schools are in need, hmmmmmmmm?
