Lt. Gov. John Garamendi comfortably defeated his four opponents in a special general election yesterday for an open U.S. Congress seat in the East Bay, according to complete unofficial election results.

So we have a another dyed in the wool liberal who wants to be sworn in asap so he can vote on the healthcare bill as soon as this weekend--- I trust he has at least read the bill or will attempt to understand it before voting for it--but that is a big leap of faith on my part.

Just like Obama wanting to "spread the wealth" around, now Garamendi's California failures will now be spread to other States since he will work for the Fed now.
To those who voted for this guy who defends bankrupt and regressive democrat policies, you have done California and America a huge disservice. Look around you at the impact of democrat principles: Detroit, California, New Jersey, New Orleans and the list goes on and on.

Sal (resident of Downtown), my daughter attends The University of Alabama where she is getting an exceptional education at a reasonable price.
U.C.,State and Community College students here in California are faced with furloughed teachers, ridiculously large class sizes, and shortened semesters, then sent into a California job market that is anti-business.

This state has been controlled by democrats for the last 30 years, and we can see the results of how vibrant CA is today with businesses, jobs, and people leaving in droves...
It's easy to call people names that don't agree with your view, democrats are great at that...How about formalating an arguement that supports your viewpoint? It's easy to just go with the flow of the political leaders and not think for yourself, many do that.
As for democracy, American History shows us that we have a Republic not a Democracy, the reason our founding fathers did this was too protect the nation from changing things dramatically with a simple majority which has resulted in many democracies downfall. In either case, it is clear that decisions being made at the top level of government today are taking away individual rights and giving the government unprecedent power over everyone's lives, not just the "right wingers." Wake up take a look at what is going on...As CA congressman David Dryer says, "right now the only time our property, rights, and freedoms are protected is when our congress is not in session."

Sal...you are showing your true liberal, bigotted colors by trying to belittle residents of Alabama. While I am not from there, the South has a huge proportion of patriotic, pro-America citizens...unlike many people of California like you.
I would much rather socialize with them and bigots like you can take your venom elsewhere.

So why don't you guys move to Alabama if it is so great and California is such a terrible, unpatriotic place? I love that you guys are willing to badmouth California (9th largest GDP in the world) and defend a backwards southern state whose greatest accomplishments includes fighting against basic civil rights in the 1960s and ranking 2nd in gun-related deaths in 2009. Wow, Alabama, what a state!! Only anti-intellectual conservatives (which both of you are) could love a state like that. Dave, I find it ironic that you call me a bigot when you defend Alabama (LOL!!), one of the most racist and intolerant states in the nation.
By the way, the Univ. of Alabama is nothing but a football factory. They had to call in the National Guard to protect African American students when they were FINALLY allowed (not by choice) to attend the school in the 1960s. What a legacy!

Per a newspaper article sometime ago - the southeastern portion of the country is the fastest growing area in the USA. Transplants flowing in from all part of the country, especially the northeast and west...
The article said black residence that migrated north in the 70's and 80's were becoming dis-illusioned and returning to their roots...

rs of Pleasanton Valley, change to Demo to Republican then I will give your comments some credence. Your one-sided view is disingenuous.
Look at all the money from around the nation that pours into targeted campaigns against Democrats and propositions the Republicans and neo-cons do not like. Why not attack those hypocrites, sorry, I meant "well meaning Americans"?
How about we stick to some issues rather than name calling, etc. Garamendi is one of the few we have sent to Washington that has practical experience. If you do not like his so-called liberal agenda then go after the specific issues, not generalizations.

California has been controlled by the initiative process. The state legislature has control of about 5% of the state budget. Look it up. We have done this to ourselves

I'm so glad stacey hasn't posted here yet. She's generally chimes in here, especially to rile people up. She is one of the most obn-xious people on this forum. Maybe this comment will bring her out, but so what. I'd like her to see that people think she is rude.

I would say Stacy is overzealous and an emotinonally driven person as far as the forum goes. Probably nice in the checkout line at Safeway as all of you are. A lot of jerks here(you might think I'm one), but in real life generally kind and polite people.
