How many more Billions of Dollars...:?
State, National, International, posted by Ken in South Pleasanton, a resident of the Downtown neighborhood, on Nov 3, 2009 at 5:55 am

How many more billions of dollars in pork will our House representatives add to the healthcare bill before they finally try to vote it into law?

Web Link

Pelosi keeps touting a total cost of under $900 Billion while her colleagues keep adding provisions to the bill that raise the cost, now estimated to be over $1.2 TRILLION dollars. Help stop this now by writing your House representative and as many Senators as you have time to write to and tell them what you think of this outrageous spending debacle. You can find links to all representatives and senators at this site

Web Link

Typically, you can write an email to ALL Senators (just copy the content of your first email and paste it to the next email). Unfortunately, Representatives only accepet emails from their constituents. Too bad because all of them should know how you feel.

Get to it, or start writing your excuse for allowing this to happen to our future generations.

I don't think expanded coverage qualifies as "pork," Ken.

"Many of the additions are designed to improve benefits or ease access to coverage in government programs."

Additionally, I'm curious as to what you are worried about "happening" to our future generations (other than improved access to health coverage).

"It will not add one dime to the deficit. In fact, the CBO said last week that it will reduce the deficit both in the first 10 years and in the second 10 years," Daly said."

As for contacting our legislators, don't worry - I have been in constant contact to express my support of the overhaul. Don't worry, though - you've got that team player John Boehner on your side.

Glad you are in touch with your representative(s) regardless of your support or opposition. That's what our government should be about. I continue to be concerned that Pelosi purposely underestimates the cost when she is talking to the press. If this 'expanded' coverage is good, then why not include the costs and talk about it. Instead, she and others consistently choose to mis-represent the real costs. Smells like she has something to hide, so, until she and others are honest about the costs, I will continue to classify the 'expanded coverage' as pork. As for future generations, my efforts to understand how government-sponsored health care in other nations operate hasn't convinced me that we need such an expensive and comprehensive piece of legislation as currently proposed. I'm in favor of smaller more focused reforms (tort, healtcare portability, agressive fraud prosecution, and open competition across state boundaries) to accomplish lower cost and greater access. I think it remains debatable how much 'better' things will be if this bill passes, but our government has a poor record of running large programs like this one either at or below projected costs. If you argue that point, then I think there is nothing more to be said between us. Our government has already allowed the deficit to spiral upwards (equal blame to all parties) and it is time we stop the spending and get our nation in order. This is one huge spending bill that shouldn't be allowed to become law.
