On Friday, January 4, Building A was flooded due to drainage clogged. According to the temporary acting site manager, bark and debris clogged the drain -- causing a flood of the storage units, specifically building 'A'. As of Thursday, January 10, nothing has been done to dry out the facility or officially notify all renters. I have contacted both the corporate "Customer Service" number, as well as stated my complaint/concern to the temporary manager. Again, the company has not indicated that anything will be done to compensate customers, or aid in cleaning or drying out the storage units. If you have items in one of these units, check all items carefully; the moisture/condensation will create mold and other damage to your goods. Additionally, if other units are not properly dried, it could create mildew damage throughout the facility, Please file all complaints with the site manager and let them know this lack of service/notification will not be tolerated.

I thought something looked odd when I opened my unit on Monday of this week, the floor looked like it had been washed and all the dust and dirt had not been swept away, now I know why! Thanks for letting us know, I have unit in the A block, luckily we don't keep much in there, but I am annoyed that we have not been informed of this in anyway as you mention. It'll be an ugly mess to clean when people who do store lots of things there and don't drop by often discover their goods damaged. This can be avoided and minimised if people are informed as they should be. Thanks for letting us know!

I really appreciated the heads-up by the original poster on this flooding. We have a storage space in Building A where we have a number of my mother's boxes and furniture stored, after she moved from an apartment to an assisted living home last year. We had received no notification from the U-Store-It management, so had no idea that units had been flooded. After reading this posting, we went to the storage space on the weekend and found that our space had indeed flooded, and about 25 boxes were drenched on the bottom and falling apart. Fortunately, the furniture had been wrapped and stored off the ground. All 25 boxes had to be thrown away and the salvageable contents dried and shifted to new, dry boxes. Unfortunately, some items were beyond saving. After working for 4 hours on this, we stopped at the office to talk to the manager, not really expecting much sympathy or compensation. The new manager agreed to pay for the cost of the new boxes and gave one month's credit.
I do think that the facility should definitely notify (and should have already) all tenants in the affected units. Any boxes or items left sitting damp will have increased damage the longer they remain, and then, as the first posting states, mildew will spread throughout the adjacent units, even if they were lucky enough to remain dry during the initial flooding.
