Continued theft of items from the front lawn

Original post made by Virginia Alsup, Birdland, on Dec 19, 2007

We have had two American flags stolen in a matter of 10 months from our front porch. The first flag was stolen while our 5-year-old son was in hospital in February. Subsequently, we moved the flag pole up higher, but that didn't prevent another flag from being stolen last night (December 18th). They also helped themselves to a penguin that was part of a little Christmas display on our front lawn. (It was not pleasant explaining this to my twin 5-year-old boys this morning.) Is this happening to anyone else?

Sounds like Pleasanton is not a Community of Character...but a Community of Thieves and Criminals....

For SHAME...

I too live in Birdland and have had an American flag stolen, in addition to many holiday decorations vandalized or outright stolen. We constantly have trash (alcohol bottles, fast food bags, pizza boxes, etc.) thrown away on our street and in our side and front yards. I quit calling the police department over a year ago, as I do not know if they actually ever sent anybody out to disperse the youths hanging out on our street.
The last time I called the police was a Sunday night/Monday morning. I could not sleep so I went out to watch some TV and try and doze off. Right away I heard the familiar sound of car doors slamming, loud music and loud drunken' talking. I was just going to let this one go with out calling the police, but then I heard the sound of empty bottles hitting my fence and side yard bushes. I called the police somewhere around 12:15am and explained what was happening to the dispatcher. She politely asked how many cars and youths there were, which I could not answer, as I physically could not see them. I held the phone out my patio door so she could hear the noise that they were making, which she acknowledged she could hear, and said she would dispatch someone out to send them along. Now one would think at 12:15am Sunday night/Monday morning, it would not take too long to have an officer there. Over an hour passed, in which time the youths proceeded to throw more beer bottles, go "streaking" through Woodthrush Park, call there friends on their cell phones and talk real loudly, and crank the music up some more. One of them apparently drank too much and threw-up on my side yard, after which the rest decided the party was over and left. I went back to bed, never knowing if the police ever came by, only knowing that it took well over an hour if they did. We recently had a neighbor move to another part of Pleasanton because of all the same problems they have had with the constant late night party's. Now some of you will probably ask why we do not confront the troublemakers. If you confront them, they become hostile, abusive, and sometimes threaten you or your property with harm. Very few have apologized and moved on when confronted.
Pleasanton is definitely not the quite little sleepy town it used to be.
