If you want to get shoppers to stay downtown longer, try these suggestions:
(1) Start fining the Harley and other motorcycle riders when they make excessive noise

(2) ban greedy landlords. They are ruining the neighborhood by making it extremely difficult for stores and business to make a go of it. Many of the downtown businesses sell overpriced stuff. Take the former Domus space for example. How many places could afford $20k per month? We don't want big box stores downtown but who else could afford that kind of overhead. Of course, the city can't ban greedy landlords in actuality, but we can fantasize about it, can't we?

I have to admit that the loud motorcycles do interrupt the relatively serene atmosphere on Main Street, especially for those of us who go there to sit outside and enjoy a peaceful and relaxing meal. I don't agree about giving motorcycle owners tickets for noise unless there is a law that they're breaking. They are coming to Main Street for the same reason we are, to enjoy the atmosphere, relax, and hopefully spend some money at the restaurants and merchants.

Regarding the "greedy landlords", I believe in a free market, and if the landlords can't fill their vacancies, they'll have to consider reducing their rents. Higher than average rent ensures that we get quality merchants on Main Street; I'd hate to see low rents and 99Cent stores in place of our higher end merchants.

Personally, the loud motorcycles don't just come to town to spend money on coffee...they come to town to parade themselves and their noisy bikes. There should be a law regarding these ambiance ruiners. If my car made that much noise I would be ticked.
