To take from your posted link,
"According to ABC, only five previous presidents had higher approval ratings at this stage of their presidencies: Truman scored in the 80th percentile six months in, while Eisenhower, Kennedy, LBJ and George H.W. Bush had approval ratings "in the 70s.""

Of course his numbers are falling. His running around the world taking on the world's green responsibilities, cramming a hastily written too expensive health care plan, leaving the green legislation to sierra club LOBBYISTS, all the while we have BayArea techies being laid off, furloughed, and teetering on keeping their homes......which Obama says too bad you still make too much, you spent too much for your Pleasanton house, so even tho you're hangin' on, I have to help the permanently unemployable inner city folk. All this extrainous stuff is consuming him.....while our ECONOMY needs his attention !! But no, he will not be diverted from his campaign AGENDA FIRST... while he's still reasonably popular. But the ECONOMY S H O U L D be his FOCUS !!! If this ecomony is lost to socialism instead of returning to a free market run by individuals.....it's a BIG permanent failure for Obama. Stick to America's business...not campaign AGENDA....just USING financial as a gift of an excuse to bankroll the inner-city AGENDA.

You know ... conservative Pleasanton people sound like stupid illiterate backwoods toothless farmers. You guys should be a little more sophisticated when it comes to politics. You live in a great place which means you should have gotten a good education. Use your brains ... stop the boogieman theory of "the negros/jews/immigrants/muslims/insert favorite group you hate" and start understanding the problem is more complex than a Rush Limbaugh radio show. Our bad habits got us here. Let's identify them and change them. American greed is a cancer, but please don't facilitate the onslaught of stupidity as a cure.

Can't won't,

What is your point? What did Nancy say that is incorrect? Obama and his policies are not working pure and simple from unemployment, to GDP growth, to spending, to debt, to the wars, to negotiation with Iran and North Korea. Pure and simple he is out of his league.

Stay cool,

The subject is Obama's current performance not historical information. Why do libs like you want to deflect to others rather than assuming ownership and seeing flaws objectively?

Stay Cool: I, for one, really appreciate your bringing citations and facts forward to inform the discussions. This effort does help people evaluate the situation with more information, and hopefully, makes it easier to "stay cool" in the face of blind, uninformed emotion. The old joke "I've got my mind made up, damn it (or dag nab it!), so don't go confusing me with FACTS!!" seems to be the norm these days, so Thank You!

Hmmmmmmmm,
My post provides both current performance AND historical information for perspective. Where I'm coming from, providing additional information is not a negative thing, as I'm not trying to paint a narrow and carefully biased picture of the situation. I absolutely assume ownership for the providing the link showing this information, and I'm perfectly capable of seeing flaws objectively.
What is a "lib?" Is it anything like a "con?"

Pete,

I also posted this on another link.

Pete,

Spending didn't get us in to this problem, and neither did sub prime borrowing. We are in this mess because Lehman Brothers collapsed and the others big financial services companies were bailed out. It wasn't the mortgages that killed AIG (the company that got the largest gift of bailout money), it was the side bets -- the derivatives. AIG isn't even a bank or mortgage company. It, like the others, sold side bets against credit defaults. It was the odds or ratios on those bets (like 10 to 1 or 50 to 1) that amplified a problem of a few hundred billion in credit defaults, and turned it into a problem of tens of trillions of dollars.

Do a little math. AIG alone has received $180 billion in bailouts. That it just one company. If the average defaulting mortgage cost a bank $100,000 to foreclose, that one bailout would be enough to cover 1.8 million foreclosures. That's more than the total number of foreclosures for 2009 for the entire country. And that's just one company.

We are in this problem because companies wrote side bets (derivatives, credit default swaps) that they could not cover. This crisis was not caused by taxes that were too high, too much government regulation of business, too many lawsuits, or even too much sub prime borrowing. Both parties Bush/McCain/Palin and Obama/Biden believe that the only way out of the mess is with big government spending.

I assume nobody is surprised. We have had a demoractic controlled Congress for how long. We have the cabinet flying all over the world handing out I'm sorry money. Our debt in going through the roof and we look like the new 100 lb weakling on the block. Its been a disaster from day 1. Look at the All Star game. He couldn't even throw a baseball to home plate.

Can you all read? Geez! And so the F what if his approval ratings go down to 45% or less? he is the President Of The United States and he has 3.5 years to do his job. Give the guy a chance.

Do this:

Go to City-Data.com

Check out the political party numbers for 10 Bay Are and East Bay Cities. Write those numbers down. Use Google and find those ten cities on line forums, similar to this one. READ THEM for an hour!

Pleeasanton is 65% Republican and more conservative than MOST bay Area Cities. The forums on the Weekly here are full of crazy conservative rubbish! Attacks on the President every day and supported by rhetoric like from a Parrot!

PATHETIC! Do something productive, rather than pointing you dam finger out word! Pleasanton is NOT the Nation and I am sure GLAD for that! Adults acting like baby monkeys! Reverse entitlement issues!

Hows that for some FEE speech?

And BTW here ARE the FACTS on the POOLS for you lunatics:

Despite the ups and downs in Obama's second quarter, his overall average is little changed from the 63% average for his first quarter in office. And even though he has had numerous sub-60% individual ratings in June and July, all of these have still exceeded the historical average of 55% job approval for presidents from Truman through George W. Bush. On this basis, it can be argued that he is still in the honeymoon phase of his presidency.

Obama's 62% second-quarter average exceeds those for his immediate predecessors, George W. Bush (56%) and Bill Clinton (44%), but is similar to those for Presidents Nixon, Carter, Reagan, and the elder George Bush. Among presidents elected to their first terms since 1952, only Dwight Eisenhower (72%) and John Kennedy (76%) had second-quarter averages significantly better than Obama's.

Well I suspect he will continue to drop in the polls as long as unemployment continues to rise, the war in Afghanistan continues to be a standoff, spending continues, people continue to lose homes, and if his policies do not begin to make a positive impact and soon by the end of the year or early next year he will be done in terms of any credible impact.

On the other hand, if the economy picks up tremendously and we start to see something happen in Afghanistan positive then he is on his way.

Really his fate is in the numbers.

From the Obama interview

"And we are succeeding in making sure that we are stopping some of the job loss that would have otherwise been there. The help that we've given to the governors alone: $144 billion -- that means teachers and police officers and firefighters aren't being laid off."

Why is it that CA, the most productive state in the union, who's citizens have paid an enormous amount in federal taxes over the years, is being told to "figure it out for yourselves"..
CA is the biggest state, and in a state of emergency, so why are were getting NONE of this 144 Billion?

"$144 billion -- that means teachers and police officers and firefighters aren't being laid off

OMG!!

Ed,

because Obama does not know what he is talking about. Washington and Oregon have been laying off teachers by the hundreds as they have no source of revenue because of property values, economy, etc.

Bottom line is that no one is getting money to be used to retain teachers and he knows it.

Here is some information regarding CA's (very substantial) portion of the stimulus dollars:

Web Link

PUSD also received I think around 6 million dollars in stimulus funds through the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act, if you are looking for an example of how we benefitted close to home.

Obama didn't say that NO teachers, firefighters, etc. are being laid off. He said it would save "some" jobs. California got itself into this mess and the feds can't bail us out entirely.

Obama is a great orator, but actions speak louder than words. He has surrounded himself with supposed really smart people, but simply printing more money (ie.... tripling the national debt), is not going to fix the economy. The feel good stage is over, and now he's finally going to be held accountable for his promises. Pretty interesting btw when your first promise is to get us out of Iraq and Afganistan, yet little progress has been made regarding that effort. Also funny (tragic) how the press has let off the gas (pressure on Bush), regarding WHEN will we be out of the conflict as it relates to Obama.

Unfortunately I fear the worst is yet to come.

Posted by Stay Cool, a resident of Another Pleasanton neighborhood
on Jul 21, 2009 at 12:29 pm

Correction: Obama actually pledged to get us out of Iraq and to step up efforts in Afghanistan. In following up with that commitment, his administration has provided a timeline for the Iraq withdrawal, relying heavily on advice from military advisors to the situation. The troop levels to Afghanistan are set to increase by 22,000 to recover progress against terrorist groups that was lost on that front under the last adminstration. I am never in favor war and its accompanying loss of military and civilian lives, but we entered into both situations and now must be committed to handling both responsibly.

Stay Cool,

you need to watch the polls because he is being held accountable for the first time in his life I believe and he is droppping quickly in the polls and according to todays Gallup Poll has dropped lower than George Bush at the same point in history of his term.

Posted by Linda, a resident of Danville
on Jul 21, 2009 at 12:35 pm

Stay Cool,

Correction is that the 22,000 is to make up for the amount of troops not reupping for duty and low recruitment achievements not to recover progress.

Posted by Stay Cool, a resident of Another Pleasanton neighborhood
on Jul 21, 2009 at 1:12 pm

Linda,
I do apologize - there has been an increase of 21,000 troops to recover progress in Afghanistan, and 22,000 to the Army temporarily due to the current strain on the military in the transition between the increase to Afghanistan and the drawdown in Iraq. See attached link:
Web Link
I eagerly research the facts and I am very careful and do watch the polls, examples of which I have posted a few times above. I am not sure how you know that he is being held accountable for the first time in his life; are you two acquaintances? Also, he is one point lower than Bush according to one poll with a margin of error of +/- 4 points. There is a bit more going on in the country now than there was during Bush's administration at the same time, and of course Obama's poll numbers will reflect people's concern for their own situations. This has been going on for quite some time.

Hey Mike who I'm sure who hides behind others who have to fight for you. You elected a disaster who has no agenda beyound the short term, history will come back to repeats its self.I guess its good we are hiring 22000 more Army troops to send to Afghanistan. That will help his unemployment numbers and be with his policy of pulling out of Iraq.
We have created Vietnam 2, the sequel.

Posted by Hey John, a resident of Another Pleasanton neighborhood

I can only assume the you are referring to Bush in your post - I don't see how you possibly be trying to pin all our problems on Obama only six months into his term after eight years of W. The part I like best is the idea that Obama has "no agenda beyound (sic) the short term." That is the funniest thing I have ever read.
At least Mike posted some facts to back up his comments, rather than just barfing up another opinion like most of the anti-Obama comments on these boards.

Posted by Mike, a resident of Downtown
on Jul 22, 2009 at 6:54 am

Individuals being objective will admit that Obama is expanding the war in Afghanistan and it is now his war not George Bush's who kept our presence there low and let the Canadians take the lead. Obama is dropping in the polls and will drop even lower as the unemployment rate continues to climb as does his spending. No spin just my opinion based on the direction things are going.
