How about a major conservative Christian for president? Poll:

Original post made by Neil, Birdland, on Jul 20, 2009

How about a major conservative Christian for president?

What would that look like?

Would it work?

Why?

Why Not?

How much faith could be pushed on the people?

What role should, could religion, or religious (conservative) values play?

How could a major Christian keep from pushing the religious values on the Country?

What about the founding fathers and separation of church and state?

Don't think they would be able to freely practice their religion because they could "offend" or "alienate" some portion of the population.

There was a father who sued the school sysytem a few years back over his daughter reciting the Pledge of Allegiance in school. He felt it was inappropriate because he is an atheist and the Pledge contains the word "God".

The whole world must walk on eggshells to avoid upsetting others. Any Christian President, would be shredded by those determined to be upset about something

Great point, J. I mean, every single president we've had has been a Christian, and the one we had for the last 8 years was a conservative Christian, but other than that, you had a great point.

I don't care what religion a president is, as long as they are not fanatic. Look at Sanford: the guy is quoting the bible to justify his actions! His religious views are scary, and someone like that would never get my vote.

Also, I would never vote for someone who believes abortion should be illegal even in the case of rape or incest, regardless of their religion.

Isn't that we had with Bush? Why would we want to go back to a corrupt system disguising itself as righteous? The separation of church and state is a good principle. Let's stick to it. Every religion thinks they have the "right" answer to all of life's problems and in turn impose that viewpoint on everyone around them. My neighbors are Christian extremists. They are intolerant, bigoted, loathing creatures. Everyone but them is a devil, evil or not righteous beings. I'm sorry. Politics is secular in nature and should stay that way. By the way, that doesn't mean you should not go to your favorite church and pray in accordance to the rules of the church, just don't do it at a city council meeting.

Correction: I would prefer a Jewish President...

The thing about Sandford is that he just can't behave himself. He might be OK as a prez but not as the President of the United States...we deserve more than TRASH.

Besides, he would probably have affairs with illegals and that wouldn't look right...brown babies all over the place that look like him...hahahahahahahahahahahhaa...

Well here is your answer as the link below discusses that if the election were held today due to Obama's sliding popularity he and Romney would be tied at 45%.

"My neighbors are Christian extremists. They are intolerant, bigoted, loathing creatures. Everyone but them is a devil, evil or not righteous beings."

pretty much sounds like Bush! Remember he invaded Iraq, because god told him to!

He was for sure self absorbed, arrogant and holier than thou! he truly believed he was doing gods work. Remember, Christians believe that anyone not saved by Jesus, or following any other belief system or religion of devil worship and they are going to HELL!

So much for the millions of indigenous peoples on this planet who never had and never will even be exposed to Christianity, the NEWEST modern man made religion.

Perhaps these peoples were designed by god to follow the devil and go to hell?

Perhaps everyone in the Middle East is expendable and Bush was "doing gods work" creating a living hell on earth for them?

Another holier than thou ignorant problem with Christianity, is that yes in deed, these people do look down on those not "save" as they always need to pray for these people salvation. All the while, there cheating on their wives, embezzling funds, lying, and molesting little kids. "AT least they are Christians and they are already "forgiven"...Geez!

Very simple remedy! Give your life to Christ! You are then SAVED and FORGIVEN forever. You are guaranteed a spot in Heaven!

Then go molest your neighbors daughter or beat your wife or steal billions from investors.

Repent and ask for forgiveness, and waala, your good!

The prison system is a testimony to this type of hypocrisy. These people give their lives to god, get out early on good behavior, then go back to raping and dope!

Christianity and or conservatism has no special advantage to believing and living a good life based upon good principals and values.

Start with "Love Thy Neighbor"... That's pretty hard for these supposed Christian fools as we can see with Rush, Hannity and people on these forums.

They are not merely "following god" by rather playing god and pushing this on everyone!

Christian web site list "buzz word" to look out for as potential cult, or devel worship, such as:

Spiriual
Drum Circle
New Age
Enlightenment

There are Christians, then there are recent 'born agains'...those are the ones that are scary. They tend to be the 'religious right'. Plain old long time Christians tend to be more moderate.
As far as President, that Elmer Gantry Huckabee, is truly scary...and as slick & cunning as can be found. Dangerous.

Susan - despite your sarcasm, I think you mean that every President has at least pretended to be religious, in order to get elected. It is an unfortunate litmus test.
