Valley Humane Society axes executive director position

In order to balance its annual budget, the Valley Humane Society board of directors said it has made the tough decision to cut its executive director position. David Stegman, who has been the director of the nonprofit since 2003, is serving out his last days on the job this week.

Somehow, I don't think using the word "axes" in the same line as Valley Humane Society is in good taste.

It just conjures up visions of something else...

couldn't they just offer him a salary cut instead of letting him go

Dave Stegman has always been committed to a better community. In the over 20 years that I have known him, he has been a great convener, collaborater, and civic leader. I wish him all the best.

And I agree with that previous post regarding the use of 'axes'. There must have been a softer way to break the news to Dave's colleagues, associates, and friends.
