Republicans Need Help

Original post made by Love Palin, Another Pleasanton neighborhood, on Jul 1, 2009

I came across this article on Al Franken's Senate victory by a former "staffer for former House Speaker Dennis Hastert and other Republicans in Congress. ".

He worries that, of all things, Democrats may try to convert USA to the metric system (as if that were a bad thing). Then he goes on to blame Jimmy Carter for the 55 MPH national speed limit. A simple google fact check would show that it was president Nixon who signed that law into effect.

Web Link

It just seems that Republicans are getting more and more pathetic. That is too bad. We don't need a one party system in the US.

I am confused, Republicans are pathetic and you do not want a one party system? So are you "conservative" and wish for the Republican party to get it's act together? Problem with republican party is they are trying to play politics the democrat party way; promise everything to the voters what they think the voters want; however, it is too late to give out all the handouts, democrats got there first; so no one is buying. Republicans, if they stop worrying about which voters they want to please, and concentrate on what it means to be conservative, they will get the votes. Oh forgot, yes, I am registered Republican.

Cholo, it just shows you how the republican party has much higher moral values; that any act of infidelity is considered the end of the career and how media is so fascinated by it; what happened to Edwards? pretty much nothing, got a pass...why not, no morals.. I guess everyone expects that from a democrat politician...sad, very sad...

Encourage to have babies(I am assuming after they found out they were pregnant; i don't think you would mean that conservatives encourage their kids to have unprotected sex); let's see, kill a baby or not to kill...explain..democrats so concerned about the "rights" of citizens, 4th amendment, 9th amendment; but then when it comes to babies..they jump to abortion as the first and best choice... can you not even consider how a 16/17 year old would feel after she aborts a baby...for the rest of her life she will live feeling that she killed a baby...or, if she is so callous that is no big deal to abort..what kind of person will she become? if my daughter got pregnant, I would probably adopt the baby myself from her, and let her continue with her life...and if others could not afford, then adoption is best to a loving family...

Oh yeah, democrats are so concerned about citizens' rights; why are you against the 2nd amendment; I would think that would be on top of your list?

By the way, I am for all rights, but mostly, for my freedom, and if there is possible cause, i give up my 4th amendment right, and go ahead, wiretap me without a warrant; as i deserve it and all other citizens' freedom is more important than my 4th amendment. Democrats however, pick and choose the rights and which citizens they want to protect, i just don't get it.

The Democrat party is simply a party of individual groups who want to rip people off.

They band together with their self interests and ram it down the throat of the rest of us.

Simple.

And the Republic party is simply a party of individuals who extoll the virtues of individual rights, but force their religious worldview down the throats of the rest of us.

That same worldview gives you your individual freedoms. Take it or leave it. I'll stick with the "religious" people. At least they aspire to morality...Democrats? Not so much.

In a down economy, more people look for handouts. That naturally will favor the Democrats. Once the economy cycles up again, people will begin to see all the wasteful government spending and get sick of the endless inflation and send a Republican into office to really fix things. Until then, go quit your job and go on welfare. Get some handouts like the rest of America.

Drexel,

Please teach me how Mark Sanford, John Ensign, and other conservative hypocrites make your Republican party so moral. The problem is self-righteous conservatives like yourself. You want to preach about your B.S. "Family Values" yet Republicans are getting into sex scandals like it is going out of style. Republicans DON'T have "higher moral values", they simply talk about values to get votes from ignorant conservatives like yourself. With Republicans, morals are not something you live by, they are a political talking point.

Republicans: The party of self-righteous hypocrites.

Al,

Yeah, sounds like a good plan...don't even aim for morality or aspire to things that are of virtue and value.

Is that the world you live in? Is that the world of Democrats? Let's all roll in the mire together? I see.

People who fail while aspiring to something better aren't hypocrites, it's called character.

Get some.

So, Al,

Let me get this straight...you believe if someone can't live up to what they say they profess to believe they are "self-righteous hypocrites"?

So, by your standards, if someone isn't perfect, they shouldn't try to live by morals?

Hmmm, those are pretty high standards, don't you think, Al? Or are you telling us you are in fact capable of living out every belief you hold to with perfection? Remember, if you can't you're a "self-righteous hypocrite."

Do you believe in telling the truth and do you teach your children to do so? Have you ever lied?

Do you believe in an education? Ever receive a grade less than 100% or a 4.0 Cumulative GPA?

If you've ever failed at any task you deem as valuable then you indeed are a "self-righteous hypocrite", according to your own standards of others.

I think your argument is ridiculous.

Bill Clinton - Democrat - King of Infidelity - responsible for resurgence in cigar sales for all the wrong reasons - Democrats seem to be okay with all of this and similar actions by other democrats in high places (doing low things). But, let a republican falter along similar lines and the democrats are more than willing to throw their torches on the pyre! A good democrat can carry on a conversation with two people, one looking at each face. If the act is immoral and dispicable, whether democrat or republican, treat them the same and hold them responsible by voting them out of office.

You are missing the point! It doesn't matter whether the immoral person and act is performed by a democrat, republican, Christian, Jew, black, red, yellow etc. It does matter that these are people in visible, public positions elected to represent US (you and me). When they don't do that, and they demonstrate their lack of character, they should be punished and held up for public ridicule and admonishment. This is not a republican or democrat thing. It is a US CITIZEN thing. If you support immoral acts and would not mind having them performed on your family members...well...I feel sorry for you and pray for your salvation. If you feel such acts are wrong, when performed by anyone on anyone, then you should be equally outraged wheter the person is democrat or republican.

The fact that Andy and Mary both missed my point that liberal democrats and conservative republicans should be held to the same level of accountability is just proof they they are unable to think for themselves. They immediately drove the discussion back to a liberal vs conservative point of view rather than the broader view of what is happening within our society as a whole. Thanks to both of them for proving my point. Now, go drink some more lemonade.

At least he is honest and admits when he screwed up, Cholo. His only real problem is that he is a public official. This is purely between him and his wife. That's why the Right didn't attack Edwards (who was running for president at the time, btw). If Govenor Sanford's wife can forgive him, so can I.

I have a much more difficut time finding charity for Barney Frank who was running a male prostitution ring out of his basement.

Ken is right on as far as accountability - they are accountable to their voters. Fortunately for Govenor Sanford, he is the govenor of a state of Conservatives who always put the person ahead of the action. Maybe he'll be given another chance. There is something to someone's message after they get humbled. I like it and think now he can really get things done! Especially since he knows he is accountable to a higher power.

is that I look forward to the weekly Republican debacles we have grown accustomed to over the last several months.

I'm not even so concerned about infidelity as a measure of character in a national leader, republican or democrat. I focus more on wars based on false information, disregard of habeas corpus, unacceptable torture techniques, huge government contracts for business interests, and generally not looking more than a couple of years down the road. How is THAT moral?

I am so pleased that our current administration is creating a long term plan rather than just trying to patch holes, which would have been far more tempting given the current economic situation.

And Al Franken won, so deal with it.

There once was a time when the GOP was not this one dimensional party that they have somehow morphed into that is only concerned with gun rights, denying abortions & religious freedom. The "christian right" or whatever they are calling themselves, have done nothing but polarize the party around what are essentially social issues. Something that TRUE conservatives know to stay away from. Barry Goldwater himself saw his own daughter caught up in her own dilemma when she decided to have an abortion & true to form for a real conservative, he realized that it was a personal choice that she alone could only make & he backed up that decision. THESE used to be the core values that conservatives (aka republicans)truly sought to defend, personal liberties. What I do to my body, put into it, decline to wear on my head while riding a motorcycle, who I choose to marry & what I speak, write or blog about are the freedoms that ultimately are what define us as a country & what have all been bastardized by the modern incarnations of both parties.

We have gone soooooooo far off the deep end this "conservative" movement, pary, whatever you call it bears little resemblance to it's former self & purpose. So is it time to roll out a 3rd party? Are the Libertarians the future? The GOP has some huge issues to deal with & a country full of people (Naysayers included) that are fed up with their elitist, exclusionary attitudes, myopic social stances hypocritical rhetoric & really bad hairdo's.

...don't blame me I voted for Ron Paul.

In response to "All I Can Say"...and the "I am so pleased that our current administration is creating a long term plan rather than just trying to patch holes, which would have been far more tempting given the current economic situation"
Accomplishments (?????) so far:
- Getting us into trillions of dollars of debt
- continuing the unemployment towards double-digits (just announced that it hit 10%)
- passed the bogus "stimulus" to generate jobs (?)...which is really a spend, spend on all the dems favorite stupid projects, of which none of are job-generating
- putting into place all the unconstitutional czar positions...30+ unaccountable to the citizens of this country bogus positions that report directly to Obama without any check or balance...
- trying to put through his HORRIBLE cap and trade crap...pushing their environmental bs program (recent statistics show we are a planet that has shown it is cooling...down 1% overall in the past few years?) Regardless of what they are trying to accomplish under their "save the planet" agenda, this will be one more thing that the U.S. govermnment has no right to impose...reducing our FREEDOM once again
- Cutting our missile defense systems when threats are happening everywhere
- stock market is dropping, interest rates are rising, more money is being borrowed (by the Chinese!) and more money being printed...inflationary times are ahead
HOW ABOUT PUTTING AN END TO THE SPENDING!!!! I'm sure most of us know that when you don't have money to spend you don't, you CUT your budget...not send us into financial ruin.
Regardless of your political affiliation...this spending has to STOP NOW!! We can't afford it!!!
Oh ya...and then there's the outrageous amount of money they want to spend on a public healthcare system. Why not fix the one they have now. And not impose the "government" plan....another attempt to squelching our FREEDOM...forcing us into THEIR system
Tell me what positive things the current admin is doing...I haven't seen anything yet.
JUST STOP THE TAXING AND THE SPENDING!!!!

Three things we need to do:

1. get rid of titles (Dem/Rep) so we can focus and vote on issues only; not by titles (party lines).
The titles clearly are clouding the minds of the voters...and non-voters. My other bumper sticker is a check and balance for all of us: "Don't believe everything you think".

2. get rid of the biased media. They have become, now, a huge problem by poisoning the minds of the voters and non-voters with commentary, not factual, reporting.

3. GO BACK TO COMMON SENSE THINKING.
