Pest Problems

Original post made by Judi on Jun 30, 2009

With this hot weather we are seeing a large increase in ants and spiders; and, now we hear that the neighbors have subterranean termites. Does anyone have a recommendation for a good pest and termite person/company?

Good grief are we in the same boat!!

How about the pincher bugs, too!! They are infiltrating our house like crazy. I would like to know about non-toxic approaches that work, but I don't mean to hijack your post...

Our problem has been ticks and spiders. Our house backs up to the arroyo and the grass was so tall it was tick heaven. They cut the grass and that helped but the biggest help was having the yard sprayed.
We used Phillips Pest Control in Hayward and were very, very pleased. The price was good, and John, the owner is just a very nice guy. He actually came and did the spray. Prompt, courteous and most of all, effective!

We've used Keystone Pest in the past. They are highly recommended by Big Valley Termite. BVT's owner sits on the State Board for pest control, so I'd go with their recommendation without any hesitation.

No, I do not like camping...because I do not like bugs. I even consider a Best Western class hotel camping, since most have bugs! Ewww.

Can you say, irradicate?!

As a local Realtor, I get asked frequently who is the best company to treat for termites. I recommend Specialty Termite & Inspections in Pleasanton. Mark the owner is very reputable and fair, and stands by his work. (925) 249-9611.

You can always email me at if you want more advice. There is a video discussing termite issues at on the video channel page as well.

Good luck! Subterranean termites are a very common problem on older homes with raised foundations.
