Police say residents helped stop mail thefts in Pleasanton Crimes & Incidents, posted by Grace, a resident of the Highland Oaks neighborhood, on Jun 2, 2009 at 4:35 pm
Nice save (read below) from some fellow Pleasanton citizens. This points out (again) why everyone should have a mail slot that empties into the house or the garage and NOT an outside mailbox. Way too risky these days!
From an article in the ValleyTimes today:
"Residents reported to police that they saw a man in a red minivan taking mail from boxes on MacDonald Court and Moller Ranch Drive. A Pleasanton motorcycle officer, who was on Moller Ranch, saw the vehicle, stopped it, and detained the three men inside.
Inside the van, officers found mail and checks stolen from Pleasanton, Livermore, Castro Valley, Clayton and Concord. They also found chemicals used to wash the checks of ink.
Police believe the men were taking the checks and forging them."

PPD does rock!!! They earn every dime that they get. The firefighters do too. If a town is not safe, it degrades over time. If my wife, daughter or son are hurt or sick I want the best to be there to save them. You get what you pay for and we get great service for what we pay.

Yes, the PPD and the Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department are the BEST - we are very fortunate to have such highly-trained and dedicated individuals serving our communities. On top of that, the citizen/neighborhood watch groups that they have instructed via workshops and lectures, can (and do) play an active role in keeping us all safe.

We've been a victim of mail theft and know very well the trouble of trying to resolve the mess as a result. The idiot stole our credit card mail which allowed the person to write a $3,000 "check" to himself. Luckily we were able to get our money back and not be liable for that amount! As for having the mail slot, deposit, etc. going directly into your garage or house, these criminals WILL find a way to get around even that. They are always at least one step ahead of everyone. It's great that the people of that neighborhood mentioned in the article were paying attention and were diligent about calling the police.
