Its only "racism" when white Americans make remarks about any other minority. Obama is still campaigning to solidify the latino vote for the Demos., nothing really historic, just politics as usual.

It is very clear to me that she refers to white men making decisions regarding cases involving Latinos, and I do not find her statement racist.
From what I have read so far I think Ms. Sotomayor will make a fine choice. Having the left and liberals complain about her confirms to me that she is a centralist.

You can argue politics, but its a dead end street, just like arguing religion. You're right from your side and I'm right from mine. The people of America voted for socialism, and that's what they got so nothing that Obama says or does should come as a surprise to anyone. Just sit back, save your money, and wait for the next election.

Choenlai, first please look up the word "Socialism."
There may be elements of socialism in this country as there elements of capitalism in the old USSR and Red China but you could hardly call USA a socialist country and USSR/Red China capitalist countries.
Wasn't it Sec. "Trust Me, I am a Wall Street Banker" Paulson that started the ball rolling with the government owning some of our country's companies. So, don't point the finger at President Obama.

IT IS SOCIALISM and I don't need to look up the definition. Yes, my finger is pointed directly at Obama just as it was pointed at Bush AND Paulsen, because he is now the man in charge and he is not putting a stop to the problem, he's only making it worse.
Pres. Clinton started this debacle when he nad Barney pushed Fannie and Freddie and the banks to give minority loans to people who couldn't afford them...Bush and the Republicans knew the bubble was growing, but they didn't do anything to stop it because they were making money and now Obama is doing the same thing. Obama wanted the job, now he gets the FINGER.

Justice Alito said the exact same thing about considering his background when he made judicial decisions. Is it OK for a conservative justice, but not a more moderate to liberal justice to make the comment. Do your own research and don't rely on the the shadow GOP (Cheney, Limbaugh, and Rove). Here are Alito's remarks during his confirmation hearing discussing his own empathy on discrimination and immigration.

LaRaza, doesn't "La Raza" translate to "The Race" in English? Seems to me a group who doesn't promote racism might have picked a different name. Just sayin'...

Facts, people, facts. . .
Sonia Sotomajor is a member of the National Council of La Raza (NCLR), which is a non-profit, non-partisan advocacy group for a specific ethnic and cultural group - Hispanic Americans.
Is that why you're calling NCLR a racist organization? Because they work for the good of one particular ethnic/cultural group of Americans? Is the NAACP a racist organization? How about the American Indian Movement (AIM)? Or the Sons of Italy, Erin, or Poland organizations? Maybe we should take it one step further and stop celebrating Cinco de Mayo and St. Patrick's Day since they're Mexican and Irish holidays respectively?? I think not!
What, is it sour grapes that we're finally getting a chance to add another woman on the Supreme Court instead of one more white male?

You may be confusing NCLR with La Raza Unida, the political party.

What exactly do you consider racist about her comments? I'm guessing you are referring to the lecture Judge Sotomajor gave in 2001 at the UC Berkeley School of Law, titled "A Latina Judge's Voice". I challenge you to read the entire speech and point out specifically what you consider racist about her comments.
Anyone who believes that any and all decisions, life or law, are not impacted by gender, race or life experiences is fooling themselves. If every law could be interpreted only one way, with a single outcome, we wouldn't have so many levels of court for appeal . . . and those courts would never overturn or modify a decision made by a lower court.
