No County Fair on Monday

Original post made by ItsNotFair, Pleasanton Meadows, on May 11, 2009

I'm bummed. What does everyone think? I like the off days as a resident. Also carnies everywhere Monday, which I don't mind. They have great stories about 'grifting pigeons' and puting recently severed digits in ice or as I heard once 'a Slushie 'cuz it'll do'. This might end up being a boon to local dentists and crank dealers, the needs go hand-in-hand. Surprisingly, F.Y.I normal size hands and they don't smell like cabbage.

While the fair will not be open on Monday's, the fair will have just as many open days as it used to. They changed the days of the fair because they were able to get more horseracing days due to closures of other horse racing facilities. That means more horseracing at the fair which is fun and actually the thing that makes money for the fair so they can afford to have all the other amenities. Not sure if you knew but the Alameda County Fair is quite different than other fairs. It is not a governmental agency; no tax money is used for it. It is a non-profit and stands on its own. We are really fortunate to have this facility here. It is successful and does not take any of our tax money. Other county fairs are cutting way back because they need the tax money for things besides the fair; like social services.

While you might like Monday's because they are slow, that is why the fair is not open on Monday's. They probably loose money on Monday's.
