Quite a few pro-G supporters claim that PUSD is a well managed public entity.
At the Feb 3 PUSD workshop Trustee Kernan said, as quoted in the PW (Feb 6, 2009) Web Link
...Trustee Pat Kernan said there isn't enough information to go forward on a parcel tax at this time. "Until we know [the final state] budget, we can't go to the public because we don't know what we're asking for," he said. "We do know it's going to be a shared sacrifice."...
Several weeks later the Board proceeded with the parcel tax measure without knowing the 'final state budget'.
With the news in the last week of the receipt of $6.7M from the state, with approximately $4M more on the way, it is clear that the PUSD Board's decision to proceed with the parcel tax was premature and unwise.
At this point in the game, to proceed with the parcel tax only shows that the PUSD Board and Unions are joined in a game to extract the greatest amount of tax dollars from what ever source they can obtain it from. This is their shared objective and it satisfies their mutual goals to have as much money as possible. In this twisted sense, maybe the pro-G supporters are right. For a lot of us, greed is not right.
