Rumors of crimes - any truth?
Crimes & Incidents, posted by Following up, a resident of the Another Pleasanton neighborhood neighborhood, on May 7, 2009 at 5:16 pm

Rumors floating around the high schools and discussed at home (anonymously asked here) -- 1) that some students from one of the high school were caught after having stolen a bunch of valuable items during an open house at Ruby Hill, and 2) that some students from one of the other high schools were arrested for sale/possession of large quantity of cocaine. Anyone else hear this, or is it being hushed up?

Someone mentioned here on another thread on April 24th that an Amador student got arrested on campus. I was a little disappointed when last Friday's PW came out to not see any news of this.

Following,

If you really.just.have.to know . . . why don't you contact the police?

Believing something written in an on-line, anonymously posted forum is like listening to, oh, I don't know, maybe rumors in high school hallways?

"Believing something written in an on-line, anonymously posted forum is like listening to, oh, I don't know, maybe rumors in high school hallways?"

Really? How about some investigative reporting by the PW instead? I think that was Stacey's point. High school hallway rumors are one thing, but you are mistaken to equate them to postings that may persist over time on a blog like the PW. And the bloggers are not teen-agers.

Gee, Frank, do you really believe that just because something is repeated over and over, it becomes the truth?

I have nothing against investigative reporting, or even investigation. However, throwing rumors out to an on-line forum, looking for anonymous posters to provide you back with whatever rumors they may have heard, is not investigation.

Oh, and as for the bloggers not being teenagers, did I mention anonymous posters?

The best thing about the PW forum is its entertainment value, and I must say Frank, you provide your fair share! Thanks!

It's true...there were five students arrested for breaking into a house in Ruby Hill. Not sure of the exact breakdown, but they were divided between Foothill and Amador Valley.

The Ruby Hill one is correct. A few teenagers were arreseted for that, like they should be. Valuables were stolen from a party, I believe. And the cocaine one-- not sure. But i wouldn't be surprised. I know there were issues at PMS with marijuana a few months ago though.

Valuables at a Ruby Hill home were stolen, but not from a party. The house was broken into while the family was away. The thieves were "friends" of the residents, knew the house was empty and because of past visits, knew what they wanted. The thieves had been in trouble with the police just prior to this and it is unclear to me why they were not locked up at the time. If not by the police then certainly by their parents.

Resident and others - thank you for the information.

Rae - I don't believe the police department would give out this information if a lay citizen called, but perhaps I'm wrong.

I do find it odd, and a continuing pattern, that incidents such as these are not covered by the Pleasanton Weekly and it's only rumor that ever alerts people to the problem. After a while with this pattern, it does seem to be a cover-up/hush-up trend.
