The little green panel is for compost. We use it in our kitchen daily and take it out to the yard waste bin each night. I also encourage all my friends to do it. The items that typically go in the in in my household are things like banana or orange peels, coffee grounds, avocado pits, etc. These are not things that tend to fall in the category of disposables that you can reduce.

You suggested that "we all just need to more mindful of what we use and reduce the amount of disposables." One way to be mindful is to educate yourself. You could have called PGS to find out what the bin was for. However I do sincerely appreciate that you feel it is important to be more mindfule of what we use and reduce disposables!!!

Last week there was a comment from another woman regarding the new recycling process. She said she would never participate and I was appalled. I find that selfish, lazy, and irresponsible. I hope she doesn't have children because it is their future environment we are destroying.

I absolutely don't mind separating my own trash. I did it when I lived in Dublin, and it made me much more mindful of my level of consumption and waste. I think this will be a good lesson for my kids as well.

One concern, though: are the rumors that I heard about a rate hike really true? It seems counterintuitive that we would be doing more of the work that PGS used to do while being asked to pay more for the service.

We were alreasy paying a premium to begin with for PGS to be sorting & recycling our trash. Now they want us to do this for them & worst yet, they are charging us more to do the work we already paying a premium for THEM to do.

Is it any wonder why the city (let alone PGS) didn't try informing the citizens in advance of what PGS was doing & we simply just rec'd notices that a decision was already made & this is how it was going to be w/no real opportunity for public comment on the matter.

This is outrageous & the citizens of Pleasanton should organize & rally together addressing this issue w/the powers that be.

I am more than willing to do my part & sort if this is what they want us to do going forward.....BUT to pay more to do their work for them....absolute crazyness!!

People of Pleasanton, WAKE UP & smell the trash that's being dumped upon us. :O
