Around Town, posted by Editor, Pleasanton Weekly Online, on Apr 15, 2009 at 6:38 am

Water is becoming a scarcer resource in California. Learn about how water is used, how we can use less to save our environment, our pocket books and learn about cash rebates available to help with water savings from 10-11:30 a.m., Tuesday, April 14, at the Pleasanton Senior Center, 5353 Sunol Blvd. Cost is $1.50 for residents; $2 for non-residents. Call 931-5365.

That's a good initiative. It's very important to spread awareness about the dropping water level in Southern California. If you go to Web Link you'll know why the fresh water reserve levels in california have dropped over the past few years. Please do whatever you can to fight this water shortage.

I just heard yesterday on the news that since california has conserved so much water in the past year the water companies are going to hike up prices to offset how much we aren't paying. I think it should be the other way around.. pay us for saving not jack up the cost of water since we aren't using enough to pay their bills...

What a joke...

Really, I heard the same thing on the news and it isn't right. We are asked to reduce and charged extra if we don't per gallon on our bills when it is over a certain amount. Then when we do they complain they aren't making enough $$ on us and hit us with a hike.... Each year we are asked to reduce by a certain percentage of what we used the previous year. I've reduced as much as I can. How about shutting down a few golf courses that must use lots of water and not allowing public fountains to have flowing water? That will help the environment and put less of the pressure on the public that is already conserving year after year.
