Now that the weather is changing and the kids are getting spring fever with summer on the way, keep an eye out for your local events. Something for everybody will be popping up soon with Music in the Park, Wed Street Parties down Main Street, Paint the Town at the Museum, and a number of festivals including the Pleasanton Fair with it's flair for Fun! I'll keep you informed with dates so check back often in this section "Around Town."

No doubt about "I'll keep you informed with dates..." Out or curiosity, are you the Pleasanton Welcome Wagon? I've seen many of your threads and you seem to have all the events organized.

This is the first time I've heard the term "winter blues" applied to the Bay Area. Being a transplant from the midwest, if anyone in the Bay Area has "winter blues" I don't feel too sorry for you.

People here like to pretend they have winter like the states that really have winter. I was just reading a blurb for a nearby library's story-time. It said "come in from the cold and snuggle up" for their story-time hour. Come in from the cold and snuggle up? This is cold? My son's second grade homework assignment asked him to describe how it looks outside now that it is winter. He looked outside our window and said "It looks how it always looks".
I say the emperor has no clothes, and doesn't need any 'cause the weather is never harsh here.
Anyway, we are definitely going to the Fair. The Music in the Park shatters my eardrums so can't go to that. I'll be going to the First Wednesday Street Party because the Improv kids are going to be involving people in something fun.

Thank you for including the Museum on Main "PAINT THE TOWN" Plein Air event in your posting. It will be a really fun community event. This is how it works - at 9:00AM artists will bring their supplies to the museum to pick up their informational packets and box lunches. Then the artists will go out to paint their views of the area. They will bring their wet paintings back to the museum at 3:00PM.
Between 4:00 and 6:00Pm all art will be on display at a silent auction. Winning bidders of the silent auction will be announced at 6:00Pm when auctioneer Ken Mercer will open a voice auction of a select group of paintings at the reception . There will be refreshments and a no-host wine and beer bar.

I neglected to mention - Artists of all ages and levels are invited to participate in the "Paint the Town" Plein Air event at the Museum on Main on June 6, 2009.

Hi PTown, Thanks for following my threads :) I'm not the official "Welcome Wagon" but that is part of my personality, welcoming people and getting them together, involved and trying to get people motivated to do something positive with their time. I like alerting people to opportunities and as I live here I like letting everyone know what's up and what's worth taking a look at that I'm aware of. With so much negativity floating around on the surface of life these days it's a nice distraction, don't you think?

It's true, it's true that our winters aren't anything like a large part of the United States, but hey I'm spoiled. I've lived in California most of my life and part of it in Hawaii so my blood just can't take the cold. When the freeze takes to the top layer of my grass here, I admire it from afar in my cozy home from my window. When I have to go out in the cold air that hits my lungs and freezes the tip of my nose (like last night) I look forward to the sunny days and sunny ways of the Sunny California coast lines I am so longing to see. "Winter Blues" here pertains to a "State of Mind" as it can be a downer for a number of us here with the cold. It stops us from doing what we want and is a discomfort to work in.

It doesn't have to. When I lived on the east coast, I would take my kids out every day to play, whether it was snowing or freezing or whatever. I just bundled them up. Because if I didn't, they'd hardly get out. I remember calling my cousin out here, who said she hadn't brought her kids outside to play that week, because it was too cold. It was about 55 degrees. Dry and sunny. I was amazed. Also, a little warmth from the sun here and everyone stays inside.
