COMMENTARY: The haves and the have-nots

Sitting side by side the other day at a joint meeting of the Pleasanton City Council and school board, City Manager Nelson Fialho and School Superintendent John Casey told very different stories about how they are handling the impact of the state budget crisis and the economic downturn on their two jurisdictions.

FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY, not Prop 13, BUDGET MANAGEMENT, not Prop 13. This is why so many people are standing against the Parcel Tax.

It may be time for educators to take care of education and let city managers take over running the school district because they understand what FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY is.
