Butterflies All Over Town
Around Town, posted by Mark Mullaney, a resident of the Pleasanton Heights neighborhood, on Mar 31, 2009 at 9:30 pm

What is up with all the butterflies/moths flying all over town. I realize it is Spring time but don't recall a year with this many. Does anyone know the reason???

I read that millions of them hatched in Northern Mexico/Southern California and are migrating up North.

I'm wondering if they will make this a normal path for them.

The last big migration was in 2005

Most are Painted Ladies. I have seen a number of Swallowtails also. In a one minute period I counted 50 through my back yard. Let's see

50 X 60 minutes X 8 hours X 5 days = 120,000. Glad they all didn't stop!
