Looks like the bay area is seeing a large migration of painted lady (Vanessa cardui) butterflies.

Yes, Paited Ladies migrating up from points south. My kids spent the last two days picking up the stragglers and giving them a little drink of sugar water before sending them back on their way.

Me too! I care! :) I've been seeing this phenom recently and had no idea what they were. Mostly while driving, and I wondered what they were. Finally, on a hike, I saw their loveliness and can't wait to show them to the kids.
