Pleasanton PTA Council drives this Parcel Tax Campaign?
Original post made by old crow, Another Pleasanton neighborhood, on Mar 7, 2009
Does that mean that PTA Council President can actually chair a political campaign?
Active role to me, is participating in meetings and fundraising. Not being THE chairperson that drives this campaign. Would the parcel tax even been as strongly considered by the board without the backing of the Pleasanton PTA Council?
Postings on another thread have parents saying they will now be choosing not to give money at the walk-through registration to PTA for school activities, since they feel they will be paying twice if the parcel tax passes.
Will this PTA Council with the President as the co-chair of Save The Pleasanton Schools Committee, be prepared when the funding at the local schools dries up when the parents choose the tax over PTA donations?
Have your cake and eat it too?
Interesting that the public hearings didn't announce that PTA would be using 5% of the PTA members funds to drive this campaign under the guise of Save Our Pleasanton Schools Committee.
This is cut and pasted from the Pleasanton PTA Council website:
PTAs can be most effective by:
• Taking an active role in planning the campaign.
• Providing personnel to inform the community (speakers, etc.).
• Developing and/or distributing available campaign materialbut not by using
student help, unless permitted by the school district (California State PTA
Legislation Policies and Procedure No. 11, 4.2.5k, 126).
• Making use of radio, TV, and print media, including newsletters, editorial board
visits, letters to the editor, and other communication resources such as PTA e-mail
and Web pages.
