Original post made on Jan 23, 2009

The town of Danville will hold a rousing homecoming celebration for Capt. Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger at 1 p.m. Saturday on the Town Green, 400 Front St., in Danville.
Sullenberger, who piloted US Airways Flight 1549 for a water landing in the Hudson River in New York, saving all 155 people on board, will be honored by Danville Mayor Newell Arnerich, the Danville Town Council, Congressman Jerry McNerney (D-Pleasanton) and other dignitaries.

I certainly applaude this mans skills and efforts in landing the plane but think equal recognition should have been given to Jeff Skiles the co-pilot. They work as a team and if the first officer hadn't been doing what he was doing Capt. Sullenberger couldn't have been doing what he was doing. Both men should have been at the Inauguration, on tv etc. they are both Heros.

This pilot and his crew did an unbelievable job. There was an article in the Valley Times that spoke of the fear one goes through in situtations such as this and what is required to control those fears and act in a rational manner...

As a side note - it was reported on a cable channel that this same aircraft suffered a compressor failure to one of its engines two days before this incident(the person reporting had a copy of the incident report that showed the same aircraft number as the plane that went down in the river). I think they said it happened on takeoff but I can't say for sure...
