Keep Hope Alive: Response to "We all Woke Up With Hope"

Original post made by Candyce Roberts on Jan 23, 2009

This is a highly ironic choice of words for the PW headline Friday Jan 23rd. Why? Because on this day, President Obama, chose to use the most powerful office in the world to send a message fully lacking in hope. He used his office and the good will of the people toward him to reverse the ban on sending tax payer dollars to fund abortion abroad. Did any Obama supporter ever dream that this would be his expression of HOPE on his third day in office? Did he ever say he was going to do this during the campaign? Did supporters envision he would act to restore our "damaged reputation" with nations abroad....by helping them kill their unborn children? Choosing to spend our tax money in this fashion is horrific in light of the economic crisis and the expectation Americans have had regarding the Administration's promises to help with "crises" in the mortgage, banking, health care and auto industries. Many people have lost jobs and homes. Many need health care. Many expected these to be top priorities during Obama's first hours in office. And yet what did he move on first? Abortion abroad funded by OUR tax dollars. I don't want my taxes spent this way. What hope is there in this act? The message Mr. Obama sends is one of heartless cruelty, not hope. If you voted for Mr. Obama and are astounded by this first act in office, let him know. If you never dreamed he would be taking your money and spending your hope to end the lives of innocent babies abroad, let him know. This taking of life has no comparison to the loss of life in the war. We were attacked by an enemy. We have a duty to defend ourselves and our way of life. Unborn babies are not enemies. They are the hope of the future. This is the hope we must keep alive. Candyce Roberts, Pleasanton

I think this actually may be part of his health care plan. To prevent them from entering government health care roles. It's probably a part of his immigration policy too.

This really is not that surprising. The information was out there that as an Illinois senator he was against the banning of late term partial birth abortions.

C'mon people. Obama is a politician...can you people really take what he said during the campaign seriously? Well, wake up and smell the coffee. He'd say anything to win the election. When things [or people] seem too good to be true...

I, for one, did not "wake up with hope."
"We" are not all united.

I, too, did not wake up with hope on inauguration day. Instead, I felt like we had gone back 40 years to the peace and love hippie days of the 1960's. Those principles are not going to keep our country safe or re-invigorate our faltering economy. But then those who voted for President Obama, and seem to think he is the Messiah, blindly believe he will just 'take care of it' for us. Like closing Guantanamo Bay and releasing criminal terrorists back to their homeland so they can attack us again. This is change we can believe in - peace and love abounds! With leaders like this, along with Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid, all drinking out of the same Kool-Aid barrel, we should be very afraid of the future.

It certainly should be no surprise to anyone that Obama would take action to expand the pro-abortion cause. He has few principles of his own and is beholden to the liberal left that controls the national media. So many people in this country were so disenchanted with George Bush that they failed to investigate what Obama really stands for.

Obama snubs vets, skips Heroes inaugural ball
Web Link

I think we can also tell where he stands on the military. The first president in 56 years to skip the ball that honors veterans and had 48 Medal of Honor winners in attendance. If you've ever read any of their stories you'd know these are the real heroes.
I guess kanye, snoop-dog or ludacris weren't going so there was no reason to display any unity or hope. But this could be considered CHANGE.

This thread has hyperbole run amok all over it!

It's about sex education, not abortion! Were you even aware that one of Bush's policies was to use our tax dollars to make other desperately overpopulated/starving countries teach abstinence only education? We also used that money to force them to use their own funds to support abstinence only education. That is so wrong on so many levels. Countries that should be teaching their people to not get pregnant in the first place in order to avoid abortion all together. That's merely an exercise in backwards thinking. It's a fact that during Republican administrations that abortion numbers do go up because of those unrealistic ideas that people will abstain just because they're taught to. Geez, look at Sarah Palin's daughter if you want an example. I know Sarah is hero to all the anti-choicers around and she couldn't even get her own daughter to abstain from sex. Now had she known how to use a condom or the pill, she might not be a new mom at age 18.

So, Candyce, what are you doing about all the starving people in our country and other countries? As more people get laid off and become homeless (me included), what are you doing about that? I'm really interested to know since you seem to think Obama's got his priorities screwed up. I think he's doing a great job so far undoing all of Bush's backwards thinking policies that negativity affect a lot of people. Including those that amount to Bush turning our country from "we the people" into the pseudo-theocracy the rest of have had to endure for the past eight years.

After all of the babies, children and pregnant woman killed and maimed in Iraq and Afghanistan, your words ring completely hollow about abortion. All you can think about is killing more people in the name of your freedom, which by the way, Iraq was not threatening to take away, nor were they the ones who attacked us on 9-11 (you must watch to Fox news). If you really think that those foreign civilian losses of life are any less important than unborn American babies, you really are one sick person! How disgusting! I'm appalled that ANYONE would say that out loud, let alone write it on the internet where it will never disappear. Let me guess, you are a churchgoer too. Do you think God thinks that those unborn American babies are more important than all those civilians killed in the name of freedom?

Obama believes in freedom of choice, which is not being pro abortion. No one is pro abortion. If you don't want one, don't have one. It's really that simple. You cannot tell me or my daughters or anyone else if they can or not. I know that makes you crazy, to not have total control over everyone else, but that's the way it is. Get over your hysteria already.

Nauseating. Your paper and this particular article are so biased toward "socialism." Those from Pleasanton who attended the "Messiah's" inauguration are absolute "lemmings."

When Ronald Reagan began his first term, he inherited a much worse economy and jobless rate -- thanks to the hapless Carter administration. Reagan turned the economy and unemployment rate around very quickly...on policies that are the exact opposite of what Obama is proposing and implementing. Obama is an avowed socialist and socialism simply does not work to build economies and produce jobs.

Wake up you socialists at the City of Pleasanton!

Janna maybe you should first read The Foreign Assistance Act of 1961 (22 U.S.C. 2151b(f)(1)), Then tell us again this is not about abortion.

I woke up nauseated and truly afraid for our great country. To have this lying fraudulent narcissistic liberal leading us down the road to ruin with the democratic congress as his accompaniment is worse than any horror movie. This is the liberalism of the 60s and 70s coming back to bite us in the worst possible ways.

I am very pleased to read this thread that there is intelligent life out there. If you just relied on the media you would think the entire world was pleased with our Messiah. Thank you for affirming my belief that there are some like minded folks who can see the writing on the wall. My son, a US Marine, is getting ready to be deployed to Afganistan and I pray for all our military. Least the terrorits who will no longer be interrogated and set free from prisions to kill more Americans. They just want us dead at any cost. I do wish Obama well, because our lives depend on it.

Janna might be interested in the website and organization...Feminists For Life...(she sounds like a feminist). She can watch the video of a woman who was a member of NARAL and Planned Parenthood until she had to take stats on the number of abortions each woman had in a year. One, two, three, four abortions a year per woman. She realized she had swallowed the lie that "abortion is so horrible and undesirable that no one would have more than one" She had even had an abortion herself for convenience sake (her words). She changed her mind about abortion when she looked truth in the eyes. I also see that Janna makes the mistake of reading my comments about using tax dollars for abortion "ABROAD" as Abortion in America. I realize abortion is legal in this country. Abortion kills an unborn child anywhere. But It is an entirely different story to export abortion by using my tax dollars. Why in the world does America have to promote abortion in Africa or China? Hearts need to change inn order to embrace life. Anger on either side gets us nowhere. But we can and should voice our objection to the use of tax dollars for abortion abroad. I will be walking door to door and setting up a booth downtown to collect as many "babyhope' postcards as I can to send to Mr. Obama on February 14th. We can make a difference...YES WE CAN.

I guess I should not have been surprised - no soon was President Obama inaugurated than the right-wing started in on ABORTION! and SOCIALISM! It only took a couple of days.

A significant, and growing, number of Americans are pro-choice. The influence of the religious right is waning, and the recent election reflected that at both the presidential and congressional levels. Time to get over it.
