So many centennials

Original post made on Aug 16, 2013

The year 1913 was memorable indeed! Coin collectors will relate to the first minting of Buffalo or Indian Head nickels. When paying our federal income taxes we can recall that the 16th Amendment to the Constitution was enacted, creating the Internal Revenue Service. 1913 also saw enactment of the 17th Amendment, providing for popular election of U.S. Senators. The first sedan-type car, a Hudson, was presented, and the National Women's Party was formed. Jesse Owens, Rosa Parks and Gerald Ford were born. Our focus here is on yet another significant event from 1913, adoption of the first Realtor Code of Ethics.

Ok this story is a joke right? Did the Onion write this?

In reality the code should read:
-We will conspire to fuel home price inflation at all times to the benefit of our bank accounts

-Our trade organization will ignore all reality to pump up home prices (including claiming that home prices always go up AND running commercials to push consumers to buy at high prices)

-We agree to monopolize the housing market through use of the MLS and protect our commissions for as long as possible

-We agree to blackball non-MLS listings and force owners to overpay our cartel for selling their house

-We agree to require the most minimal standards and no real educational background or qualifications to gain the realtor badge

-We agree that as home prices go up we will continue to charge a percentage of the sale for our services despite not performing any additional work or adding any more value to the transaction
