Pleasanton in the news
Around Town, posted by anon, a resident of the Another Pleasanton neighborhood neighborhood, on Mar 19, 2013 at 2:54 pm

My daughter sent this to me today. I had never seen it and not only think it is hilarious, but sadly, know how true it is. The bit at the end of the video is PRICELESS.

It's that "privileged" attitude of Pleasantonians.

School administrators waving their hands and demanding an ID at Pleasanton schools who called the police to report 'a man in an orange vest filming students' neglecting to mention to the police it was a reporter from KRON 4 News with an accompanying KRON 4 news van standing on a public sidewalk outside of school property should be cited and fined for filing a false police report.

Whoever that teacher was, they were a bit out of line. I don't like the idea of my children being filmed, but he was on public property where he had the right to be. Her reaction made us all look bad.

In our defense, you have to consider that 2,200 kids have to be dropped off and picked up in about 30 minutes before school and maybe 20 minutes after school. We are nowhere near close enough for my kids ever to walk. I'd expect CPS to be called if I expected them to. Call me paranoid, but there's no way I'm going to allow them to ride bikes across town alone (one of my kids has an A period so they don't go at the same time). No way. I'm also not going to have them walking to bus stops alone. FHS was built when there were school buses and way before they ever imagined 2,200 kids there. It's a two lane road in and out (one lane each direction) so of course it becomes crazy becaue 90% of the kids start and end at the same time. I just hope there's never a real emergency during drop off and pick up time because there's no way proper emergency vehicles could get through. Not good.

"Adults" often behave badly...BUSTED!

Hey MMP, you asked for it. I'm calling you crazy. Not allowing your children to ride their bikes across town? Not allowing your child to walk to bus stops alone? I can't wait until your kids go off to college. They are going to rebell!!!!

That short video captured the mentality of Pleasanton better than I ever thought possible. Absolutely brilliant! From confrontational and dishonest school staff (parking lot guardians?) to self-entitled parents who are too fearful to let their kids walk/ride their bike to school, this video had it all. Gee, I wonder if the person driving that huge white SUV that blocked the bus drop-off was a Republican. It’s most likely the same kind of person that takes up 3 parking spots at a given parking lot. Typical Pleasanton!!

The video is too true. The reporter missed parents parking their cars and blocking driveways when picking their kids up from school.

I bike with my child to school, and drivers need to watch out for pedestrians, cyclists, and please be courteous and give yourself extra time so you don't need to break rules b/c you are in a hurry.

The school district created the problem by eliminating school busses and overcrowding the schools. But the parents get blamed for an impossible situation.

Do not judge parents who want to keep their kids safe. Vanessa Sampson was torn from a street in Pleasanton, raped, tortured, murdered and her body dumped. Tina Faelz was murdered walking home from Foothill high school.

Sal,

How do you know that the guy in the white SUV wasn't a member of your "silent majority" limousine liberals? Keep that dial on MSNBC and drinking the Kool-Aid.
