Question for you, Mary, if you can please clarify this requirement: The scholarship application guideline states that the scholarship is subject to 'demonstrated financial need'. What does that mean?

Before I spend time filling out the forms and tracking down my 2011 W-2's and tax returns, can you quantify what 'demonstrated financial need' is?

I agree with the diseased one. All this focus on 'demonstrated financial need' is just another indicator of creeping socialism. Whatever happened to merit? Why should some poor kid be given a lift over my own? I worked hard to possess the most toys on my block. I outcompeted my former friends, I kissed up whenever helpful, and I kicked down whenever I thought it would help me. And now the socialists want to take my toys away and give them to some other poor loser's kid? Where in the Constitution is that permitted?

So what is demonstrated financial need and why does the question so inflame our local liberals? Are you afraid someone might take away something you feel entitled to? Is this really another handout that ony liberals can qualify for?

I have to agree with the people above even if I think their political voice is a bit too strong.

In this country we have to stop punishing working Americans. Scholarships are just what they say for "scholarly" achievements. And they should be for legal citizens.

It is just awful that we offer more support programs to illegals and to people in prison,then we do our own legal kids.

My mother and her parents were immigrants, but they did it legally and never, not even once (and they dealt with the the Great Depression) did they go on welfare (or have a baby that they expected this country to pay for). They also learned English and were proud to call themselves Americans.

My own parents were legal immigrants, but beyond that they were crumbums. My father was a professional thief and my mom was a drug dealer. They both knew how to speak English thought. I guess that makes most illegals better than the white riff-raff that thinks their own stink is better than illegals'.

Now, why give a scholarship to a rich kid? He's had all kinds of advantages, tutors, best schools, nannies, test coaches, and he's supposed to be the one who gets the scholarship? Here I think Republican ideology -- I got mine and screw you I want more -- is eclipsing common sense.
