Bridge celebration to cost $5.6 million

This was covered in local papers today. The most stunning of comments from Sacramento:

"That said, this is the public's bridge and they deserve this once-in-a-century opportunity to walk on their bridge. If it takes some public dollars to make it a safe event, then so be it. I'm not going to second-guess the experts about what that should cost." Web Link

I'm not sure why anyone needs to "walk on their bridge" rather than drive over their bridge. And isn't it good to know no one will "second-guess the experts" about costs. Why not just charge each of the 125,000 participants $45 and cover the whole tab?

Doesn't Governor Brown's train to nowhere or those tunnels need some funding? Aren't there any highways in need of repair?

The government is saying "We have too much tax money now and need to find a way to spend it!"

They expect 200,000 attendees and want to spend $2,000,000 on buses?

For 200,000 attendees that comes out to a cost of $28 per person.

Let this be a lesson anytime the government asks you for more tax money. Great reason to vote no on any tax increase!

You have things like this plus you have a school board that approves a $500,000,000 facilities plan! We need a lot of voting people out!

I think the government has completely lost it. We have all this pension and retiree debt, can't afford new schools without taxing the people more, and they want to spend $5.6 million on a party? Talk about arrogance.

Wow, where in the Constitution does it say anything about govt throwing parties and bashes? The absolute last thing we should be doing is making people feel good about their state while we're all toiling under Democrat Party tyranny.
