@fed up. If you dont like the new mandates, pack a lunch for your kid with all the junk food you want. Bottom line, the trickle down effect of all the junk food and sugary drinks is a precursor for many diseases. diseases that cost big money in health care costs. While the schools are teaching the ABC's, let them teach about good nutrition. School districts get federal funding....the feds have a right to add restrictions.

fed up, we were a nanny state from the first date the teaching standards were established in the 19th Century.

regarding "tasteless baked versions and candy with hippie-style granola" OMG, I did not know Safeway were catering to subversives like me!! Hippie-style granola? Hey, Mr. Know-it-all, granola came from Europe in the early 1970s. At least we approved upon it. At least call it correctly, "Socialist sustenance."
