interesting that the 12.2% unemployment rate is all because of the democrats in sacramento and has nothing to do with bush's economic policies for the past 8 years. If only the dems in sacramento had done what bush did we'd be a lot better off!

The Dem controlled CA legislature has been spending like drunken sailors for YEARS, and that is an insult to actual drunken sailors, really.

During the same period, Bush signed off on increasing spending in a true bi-partisan fashion, and Guvna Ahhmuld made only a feeble halfway effort at spending reform in CA.

Simple analysis shows that for these past years if CA spending had been pegged to population growth factoring for inflation, CA would be running a surplus instead of a deficit.

WAKE UP CALIFORNIANS, VOTE THEM ALL OUT,

VOTE FOR FISCAL SANITY. No new government programs or spending increases that increase debt, period. No new taxes, no spending increases on any category, education on down not accounted for by growth of the student population.

Here is a good start, four fundamental planks of reform: (1) a promise not to accept PAC or lobbyist contributions, (dinners, tickets, or sexual favors), (2) a commitment to abolish "earmarks" permanently, (3) a commitment to support public financing of public elections, and (4) a commitment to compel transparency in the functioning of Congress.

One must ask the question? If you want a job in California what would you say is the growth industry? Unemployment or government, teaching or other non industry job. Does not bode well for the future. Vote for pro business if you have hope for this state.

Maybe you haven't heard of this Silicon Valley thing we have here. Intel and Cisco posted some pretty good earnings. People are still coming from all over the world to work here.

What is a vote for "pro business"?

Yo Einstein< and thanks for being so original as to steal my name and have no identity of your own. Andy Grove, President and Chairman of Intel has stated that he would move all of his jobs and manufacturing base out of California and has only leaving 1/10 of the employment of Intel in California as opposed to 1980 when 90% was from California. My nephew is a VP with Cisco and my next door neighbor is an EVP and they do very little in California in terms of manufacturing and will do even less in the future. Cancelled plans to expand Cisco park. They are also looking for a way out.

Yes, those who think that California can attract jobs because its "California" are sadly mistaken. We went through some great times, but times have changed. Manufacturing is not coming back, its going to China. Its sad when American companies can shipped product to China just to be packaged and shipped back to the US because its cheaper than having it packaged here. We in the US do not make much of anything anymore. Our best commodity - innovation - if in jeopardy and are schools are under funded or college fees have sky rocketed and other countries are taking over.

We, as a country, have to figure what we are going to do. Are we going to become a service nation relying on tourism and such - then we shall become a 3rd world nation. Can't ahppen you say? Just watch as every manufacturing job leaves this country over the next decade or two. yes, it will be slow, but unless we do something to stop it, its going to happen.

I heard this chicken little stuff back in 1978. Everyone was leaving California, and we've had some good times but now it is all over. And here we are thirty years later, and the California economy has grown in a huge way. I remember the Andy Grove venting back in the early nineties about not expanding any more in California. Then there was the huge expansion of the D2 Fab in Santa Clara from 1995 to 2000, not to mention the opening of the Robert Noyce headquarters accompanied by the hiring of thousands of engineers. And then there was the major expansion by Intel in Folsom.

And Cisco in California? Just take a ride down Tasman Drive sometime. None of those buildings existed in 1992. The newest wave of hiring there was in the 2004 - 2007 time frame.

They have never done much manufacturing in the US at all. That's what companies like Flextronics are for. Cisco does higher skilled and higher paid work in the US.

We're going to do just fine going forward. Fortune magazine is even projecting growth in median prices for residential real estate in Alameda and Santa Clara counties as soon as next year.
