Senate Majority Leader Ellen M. Corbett (D-East Bay) will host a "Small Business of the Year" Celebration in Union City on Saturday, May 17th. At the event, Senator Corbett will honor owner-operated Niles Pie Company as the 2014 10th State Senate District "Small Business of the Year."
Founded in 2010, locally-based Niles Pie Company produces handmade pies and pastries using local, seasonal and primarily organic ingredients. With U.S. Small Business Association loan and extensive grassroots support, Niles Pie Company has grown markedly over the last few years and integrated itself into the fabric of the greater East Bay, particularly in the Union City and Fremont communities.
Owner Carolyn Berke, also set to be honored at the celebration, currently serves as Chef and Baker at Niles Pie Company.
Union City Mayor Carol Dutra-Vernaci will be offering welcoming remarks during the celebration. The event is co-hosted by the City of Union City, the Union City Chamber of Commerce and the Niles Main Street Association.
