"Superintendent Parvin Ahmadi said the district planned to change class sizes for kindegartners last because those students aren't required to attend school a full day and most schools have staggered days that allow for smaller kindergarten classes for part of the day."

This completely shows just how much Ms. Ahmadi is out of touch with education in the 21st century.

Yes, of course students aren't required to attend a full day. We know that. In fact, parents don't have to send their kids to Kindergarten - so why doesn't the school district just get rid of it altogether (insert sarcasm)? It is disturbing because Pleasanton is so behind the times for NOT HAVING A FULL-DAY Kindergarten program in the first place. With Common Core becoming a reality RIGHT NOW, how on earth are these kids going to be prepared for the upper grade elementary school? How are the teachers going to have the time to teach, let alone evaluate and discern between kids who need extra help? How are the Kindergartners going to have time to just play with their friends and learn in a more relaxed environment with only just a few hours to do so? The justification that start times are being staggered to allow for smaller class sizes -- for just a few hours of the day -- misses the big picture of the problem with the Kindergarten program in Pleasanton in general.

This woman is so antiquated in her thinking. Dear Lord, Pleasanton deserves better. How did she get this job?

Adding to the comment above....
Has Ahmadi spoken to the kindergarten teachers or parents asked them about how they feel about the staggered schedule and 30 kids in a classroom? It's a nightmare. Teachers are stressed out and kids are not getting the attention deserve. Kids are falling through the cracks. But this is what happens when an administration operates in a vacuum.

With the $250,000 wasted on Proposition E propaganda just a little while back, we are now ready to start wasting money with a vengeance. Back then, we had no money for anything, but now we can hire "assessment coordinators", "physical education specialists" for first graders, and "assistant principals" at all the elementary schools. We don't need more administrators; we need to eliminate the ones we already have. And we should eliminate the Board while we are at it.

I heartily agree. I'd only add that we need to eliminate public schools altother while we are at it. Its all a big waste and nowhere did our Founding Fathers ever write anything into the Constitution about Socialist schooling.

Don't miss out on the discussion!
