Jeff Bowser should not have a say he's running for a position and I guarantee you he's going to want the teachers union to back him.

There's only one thing I like to happen behind closed doors, and it's not decisions about discipline.

If a public employee has done something that the board feels requires its attention, then I want to know what that public employee is accused of and I want to hear what both the board and said public employee have to say.

Such issues are not between employees and the board. They are between the district and the public.

Transparency, not arrogance.

When you read about some of what these board members ran on transparency was one of the key points. This is quite the opposite of that. Will any portion of this meeting be on the web channel? The public comments and report on their decision should, correct?

I called Tri-Valley Community Television this afternoon and was told that they are not scheduled to televise tonight's board meeting because it is a closed meeting. I asked if the public comments portion would be televised and was told again that they are not scheduled to televise the board meeting.

That is so ridiculous. The open portion of this meeting should be televised! We won't even know the outcome. Why wouldn't the TV people just change their schedule and show it, what else could they possibly be showing that is more important?

Bowser may need to kiss up to the union, however the parents and residents are the ones who vote him into office. If he wants my vote he should think of the needs of the school and students. He needs to stop looking out for himself and his political career and do what is best for our community. Keeping Jon Vranesh as Principal at Walnut Grove is the best decision and he, along with the rest of the board and teacher's union know that! Do the right thing Bowser. You already lost points by sneaking in an unscheduled school board meeting two days before a holiday to decide the fate of a great person. Shame on you!

It appears that they will be taking comments. If you look at the pleasanton school board website and click on the procedures it says they will be taking comments. I encourage all to go out and express their thoughts!

Public comments before the Board goes into closed session are limited to the topic of the closed session. Not the Board's rule rather part of the Brown act.

Yes, it is because of the Brown Act that they are taking comments. Since the topic of the meeting is about employee discipline, dismissal, etc... They have to take comments about Mr. Vranesh, right??

What am I missing here.... Public comments are limited to the topic of the meeting, but it's a closed meeting and no one seems to know what this is all about. That's of course if you ignore the gossips on here who think they know everything because the "talk" with others on playgrounds and sports fields.

How in the heck can someone make a public comment on the subject when none of us really know what it is?

By the way, it's complete BS that they scheduled this when they knew so many of us would be out of town, myself included. Jon Vranesh deserves better and to benefit from the words of so many of us who have children that were lucky enough to get to know Mr. Vranesh. Let me tell you, when he spoke to me as a parent, he knew my child and you would have thought my child was his only student. But no way. This is how he was with all his students. He knew them. He knew the parents. He never took the easy way out. He took the time to meet the families and siblings he'd later guide, including with my own family. He called when he really didn't have to. Working with him was a partnership. And no, my child was not problematic and never received a referral and maybe one detention her entire school career and she has already graduated.

Parvin needs to go before our property values start to go down the toilet with our school district. Folks are going to go to San Ramon and Danville instead of Pleasanton with all the nonsense since this lady took over. She's out of her league and needs to be replaced no mater what the outcome with Mr. Vranesh. That's what the next board meeting ought to be about, or in fact, maybe they should address removing her tonight instead of Jon Vranish. You can't tell me he's done anything that has caused as much damage as she has.

We took ours out of PUSD schools this year. Ahmadi needs to go or others will follow. I know many other parents we know from around town are considering the same. I was no John Casey (that was his name, right?), but he looks like a genius compared to Ahmadi. We have the funds to hire the best out there so it's time we spend our funds and find someone worthy of this great community.

There is a little know section of the California Code that allows a member of the public to place an item related to the school district on a future agenda for discussion:

35145.5.
It is the intent of the Legislature that members of the public be able to place matters directly related to school district business on the agenda of school district governing board meetings.

This would be an opportunity to members of the public to force the school board to put on a future board meeting agenda an item like "Discuss administration leadership" or whatever you are looking for. You are not powerless. You can make a difference.

Sara,
Initially speakers were told there would be 20 minutes for comments, so they would divide 20 by the number of speakers. Since they had no idea how many people were going to speak, the timer was set to 3 minutes for each person. No one was cut off, and everyone who wanted to speak was able to do so. Speakers supported Mr. Vranesh and called the District on the carpet regarding the poor communication.

I am disappointed that the District management with the PUSD teachers union have dishonestly postured and have distorted the truth to deceive the public in order to smear the good name of Jon Vranesh. PUSD management and the union will say and do most anything in an effort to deceive the community. Our children's future is being seriously harmed by the greedy, dishonest and uncaring teachers unions. By attempting to take down a principal, the teachers unions seeks to manipulate the system in the interest of wielding power over taxpayers, the school board, parents and children. Their aim? To take down the best principal the District has -Jon Vranesh.

I guess this is expected in a school district like PUSD that actually maintains an 'enemies list.'

I was at the meeting and I got the impression that all of them were dangling from puppet strings, just because a few right-wing parents complained about the schools being too liberal. A certain few parents shouldn't have that much power over the district. I am so peeved!

He has nothing to do with educating our kids. I believe that's what our great teachers do right? When a teacher has done everything they can the last resort is? "Go see the Princible" His job is to deal with kids in trouble, teacher squabbles , and out of control parents. Has anyone asked their kids about this issue? I sure did and WOW I was shocked

The principal has absolutely everything to do with how children are educated and is in charge of putting teachers on performance plans by designating the "non performing" when their teaching does not meet acceptable expectations per the union contract Web Link

Some teachers should be removed from their position because they do not meet performance expectations.

And as far as the teacher's union trying to spin this as so-called right wing parents calling for Jon Vranesh's ouster, that is dishonest. Parents have not complained. It is the teachers that are complaining. Dishonest teachers should be removed and not be allowed to teach our kids.

A principle has a lot to do with educating our kids as does the district. Not directly like teachers but, they have a big impact on the way in which the teachers run their classrooms. The teachers always complain about what the district is doing and how it effects their classroom. Look at all the changes with Core standards, a lot of teachers are unhappy about this, they are saying it is too much too soon. The size of the classrooms is based on the board/district as well as most everything that the teachers do in the classroom. A good principle also keeps the teachers and parents in check. When parents complain about teachers it is a principals job to listen and take action. This doesn't always make the principal a fan favorite amongst teachers who are doing a poor job.

To A.P.,
You know see what I was talking about. You and I have more in common than you think. There are an overwhelming majority of good teachers in Pleasanton, but there are also some very bad ones who leverage a very unsophisticated teacher's. Union. Combine that with a group of aggressive, uneducated, and unthinking conservative parents and this is what you get.

The parents in Pleasanton haven't complained about Jon Vranesh. It is the union. The union, receiving such bad publicity throughout the entire community, is in spin control mode spinning the entire fiasco as if it has nothing to do about them. They are pointing the finger at parents as the cause, but that is false.

"An Observer" and "Still Waiting for the Facts" are probably teachers in the District and members of the union, and they call parents in Pleasanton uneducated and unthinking and out of control. If that isn't lack of respect, I don't know what is.

The majority of Pleasanton parents work for high technology firms in Silicon Valley and San Francisco. It is sad that teachers would resort to name-calling, but again, these posters above are more than likely District employees posing as parents with innuendo-laced comments like "Has anyone asked their kids about this issue? I sure did and WOW I was shocked."

Very troubling....

Who is above the board? County or state person? I think this needs to be blown open, and expose the fraud for what it is. Even if the board says JV can go back to work and sweep this under the rug isn't enough. I think more than the local public should know what type of folks are on the board, so if they run for other pubic positions, they're track record will be visible. How about a class action law suit against the board ?

I became aware of this issue because of friends of mine who are in the WG community. I am one of the high-tech workers referred to above, and I have 2 children who are growing up in Pleasanton schools. So, while I cannot comment about the character of Mr. Vranesh, I am left with a few key thoughts.

1. Without the facts, I can only assume there are serious charges against Mr. V and that the entire school board is not being duped here. These are professional people who have a job and a duty. Assuming they are incompetent is bordering on arrogant. And, the fact that the school board cannot share these charges publicly must indicate there are some special circumstances. Why else would they call a special session just to discuss the performance of one individual? Once again, without facts I will continue to assume that the situation was serious.

2. Given the above (i.e. a serious, confidential situation), it is quite possible that people's history with Mr. Vranesh and/or character references will have nothing to do with how the situation is handled. In the professional world, if you do something seriously unprofessional, you get fired. It wouldn't matter how many of my colleagues and/or subordinates came forward and said I was a great guy, helped them out, built a great business, etc. You break the rules, you get fired. Why should a principal get any different treatment?

3. And seriously, come on people. Arguing about the quality of education and constantly using "principle" instead of "principal"? Please. A principle is a belief that one has. A principal is in charge of the school. And, putting teachers on performance plans doesn't feel like a very proactive role to me. Common Core may be pushing our teachers and our kids further than they've ever been pushed, but I want our school system to push our teachers and our kids as far as they can.

4. Without facts, I think the people with conspiracy theories have been watching too much TV. Right-wing parents influencing the school board puppets? Hilarious. A cabal of teachers out to dethrone a principal? Brilliant. Go write a screen play. If you don't have facts, then just state your own opinion and leave the pitch forks at home.

Hold the bus! There're lots of facts out there.

Fact: My husband belonged to the cabal which is trying to get some of the communist PUSD teachers back to Russia where they belong.

Fact: My husband was chased out of the cabal because he thought some of their methods were too extreme. There's no good reason to try to chase almost half the teachers out when a selective focus on a principal or two can do the trick just as well.

Fact: Just about anybody who's anybody knows what the story is. If you can't figure out what has just happened, it's because you're just not trying hard enough and you don't know the right people.

Fact: My husband has been trying to get the cabal to come forward, but they've invested so much into overhauling the entire rotten and corrupt school district that they feel they can't go back now.

I'm certain more reliable facts like mine will come out as this discussion board progresses.

Thank you to the people who posted updates about the meeting. I was unable to attend and was very disappointed that it wasn't on TV. I'm not a lawyer, but if Jeff Bowser did tell everyone to go home because they weren't going to say anything about the closed session, then it seems to me either 1) they didn't make any decisions in that session, or 2) they broke the law.

The closed session was regarding "Public Employee Discipline/Dismissal/Release Pursuant to Government Code 54957," and according to that code:

54957.1. (a) The legislative body of any local agency shall
publicly report any action taken in closed session and the vote or
abstention on that action of every member present, as follows:
...
(5) Action taken to appoint, employ, dismiss, accept the
resignation of, or otherwise affect the employment status of a public
employee in closed session pursuant to Section 54957 shall be
reported at the public meeting during which the closed session is
held. Any report required by this paragraph shall identify the title
of the position. The general requirement of this paragraph
notwithstanding, the report of a dismissal or of the nonrenewal of an
employment contract shall be deferred until the first public meeting
following the exhaustion of administrative remedies, if any.

Here are a few more facts:
- Under the "leadership" of Ahmadi and Bowser API scores have dropped and communication from the District to parents (when it occurs at all) has been abysmal(10? days to notify WG about JV, closed session board meeting during a holiday, evasive comments last night about when we will get an update from the Board on JV).
- JV is highly respected and valued by PUSD parents.
- Last night's speakers all supported JV. Many of them chastised the Board and the District. Speakers included current and former WG PTA (folks who volunteer and raise money for our schools)and a former City Council member.
- Bowser has several conflicts of interest and has filed papers to run for Superintendent, Alameda County Office of Education.
- We elect the Board (they report to us) and Ahmadi reports to the Board (they can remove her).

We deserve better leadership for PUSD. Don't just post your concerns here. Write to the Board, attend meetings, vote for new leadership and encourage your friends and neighbors to do the same. We need a new Superintendent and a new Board.

Tim nailed it. Ahmadi needs to go. I've known Jon Vranesh for years and totally believe in him. The gossips on these boards are saying he must of done something heinous which upsets me having known this man for years and how he treated my children. If he did something so horrible, it would be PPD not PUSD handling it. It's probably political nonsense.

Maybe he made a mistake. Who among us has not. But obviously it wasn't anything illegal IF this is the case since PPD doesn't seem to be involved. If a mistake was made, this man has the character to own it, fix it, accept consequences and then move on. Losing JV from our district would be a huge loss. I've had kids in PUSD from K to 12 and was the best administrator of all those I come to know in my 15 years with kids in Pleasanton schools. And I'm hands on and very involved.

Thank you Mr. Vranish for your work with my children and the thousands of others you've worked with.

If parents have major concerns, keep documentation of everything. If nothing in the district is getting solved, do take it to the next level- the county (ACOE- Alameda County Office of Education.) There's tons of resources there and ways to make formal complaints.

I've taught in Oakland and have used the county office to get action taken since most districts have this mentality of "sweep it under the rug." From what I've read here, it seems some like a sack of potatoes are waiting to explode within this district. As for Common Core, since I've seen a few comments on this subject, it really isn't any different from NCLB. It's a forced set of standards that does the same thing as NCLB...one a box fits all type education. I've seen the standards dramatically over the last 15 years and each year it seems that the art and craft of teaching is becoming damaged. Common Core isn't any less rigid than NCLB. If you want to take a look at what the new "Start Test" is go this website:

Web Link

Smarter Balance is the new test. There's practice/pilot tests so one can get some sense as to what it's changing too.

Reply to Lee,

You have said that the Teachers and the District have distorted the "Truth." I am still waiting for this "truth." I have looked and asked the district and the teachers but no one has said anything. I am still in the dark.

Can you please let us know what has happened? First, why was Mr. Vranesh removed? Peeved suggested that through all the rumor, conjecture and assumptions I should know the facts. Peeved even said that even though Peeved attended the meeting, all that was conveyed was an "impression of ..." Still no facts. Sadly, I cannot go down that slope as I find it irresponsible. Since you know what has happened and you are posting in the comments section for us to read, please post the truth and the facts. It will allow for us to comment on evidence and not character, or rumor.

You have stated you know the truth and the facts. Can you please state the truth and the facts about the Jon Vranesh issue. This will help stop the finger pointing; "it was the Teachers, the district, THE PARENTS!" Or even worse the calls for deporting teachers that parents do not like; "send them to RUSSIA!"

Reply to An Observer,

I still have trouble with the "very bad teachers" comment. What does bad mean? Disliked? Inexperienced? Criminal? Communist? "Bad teachers" is an opinion that is not backed up and leaves open to much. I understand the composition and make up of our community. It is very different from Ruby Hills to Vine St.

I am glad that there is common ground. I have done my best to keep the issue on the issue, but it is difficult. Especially with all the rumors and theories! All I have been asking for are the facts behind Mr. Vranesh's removal. What we have received is a load of rumor, conjecture, misinformation, whataboutery, and point scoring.

I can only speak for myself. I cannot claim to know what "everyone else," or "people I know" think or would do. It is sad that people believe they can speak for a group ("we are ALL going to leave...") I really like our schools and our teachers. I moved to Pleasanton because of the schools, community, and life style.

10 Things for which to be Thankful:

1. A School Board, thrown into uncharted waters, that recognizes a man, even one unwilling to accept the truth of his own words and suggestions, still deserves to have his privacy protected.

2. Violated teachers who respect due process enough to stay quiet and not hang an individual out to dry publicly.

3. The vehemence of an uninformed, yet supportive public whose future apologies will undoubtedly be equally passionate.

4. The illiteracy and illogic of some supporters whose lack of command of the English language undermines their own baseless points.

5. Due process and decorum in the face of tabloid-inspired belief that we are entitled to know everything immediately. We're not, and sometimes mystery is better than the truth, even for the guilty.

6. That a man's utter lack of character, leadership, accountability and discretion in the face of his own actions ultimately provides the best ongoing support for his pending dismissal.

7. A guilty man's ego and delusions will ultimately complete his fall. Resignation would have been a far better outcome than dismissal

8. That the new principal will serve as a far better role-model for our children.

9. That this great community and school of ours will heal.
10. Last, but certainly not least, Turkey! (Just not the current one in question.)

Seems like males have a difficult time at Walnut Grove. Remember when a bunch of female teachers went on the attack after Jim Fields, former 2nd grade Walnut Grove teacher, when he ran for city council and made accusations that he said things that were not true, going to the newspapers, etc? Once again, we have the same thing happening at Walnut Grove.

And once again we have the unprofessional poster using the name "Thanksgiving," who obviously is the person who filed the complaint, posting libelous allegations. I wonder if it is one of the existing Walnut Grove teachers, one of the instructional coaches, or someone other District employee?

Thanks Lee. I am glad that you shared the truth and the facts here. I am amazed that Walnut Grove has been able to be controlled and manipulated by a bunch of man-hating females. Thank you for revealing and exposing the dark secret of this elementary school. Also, "A Parent" has seconded your truth with "Lee you nailed it." So it must be true.

The fact that a group of women have been allowed to "attack," "accuse," and "say things that are not true" about the men at Walnut Grove is disgusting! This must be stopped. The community must find a way to expose and disband these ruthless female teachers who are doing it again. I didn't know Jon Vranesh was running for city council but if the "same thing" is happening again, then he must be, and those same female teachers are out to get him and are doing anything, and everything dishonestly to stop him!

I give thanks to Lee for exposing this and telling us the facts!

To "A Parent,"

When Lee said, "...the person posting as "Thanksgiving" who is obviously the person who filed the complaint, posting libelous allegations." I didn't know who "Thanksgiving" was. It was not obvious to me. That is why we need these forums! So we can help each other out.

See, I did not know that "Thanksgiving" IS a teacher like you say! Even after Lee proposed that "Thanksgiving" MAY be an "existing Walnut Grove Teacher," OR "an instructional coach," OR "someone other district employee" I still do not know who "Thanksgiving" really is.

That is why I thank you for telling me that "Thanksgiving" IS a teacher. I don't know how you know for certain, but I am glad you do and that you told that FACT to us all.

Finally, the "Truth" is out. Just read Lee's post. Jon Vranesh did nothing wrong. It was a group of female teachers (Lee was a gentleman and did not reveal these horrible women's names) telling lies and attacking the innocent Jon Vranesh. Case Closed!!! Thanks again Lee. No rumor, no conjecture, just the cold hard facts from Lee!

Hey. Thanksgiving. Put your money where your mouth is. Libel will cost you. Oh that's right. It will cost all of us if there are defamation charges!

I'm sure it won't be much longer and the true fact will be known. A lot of emotions are flying around, and I understand why. I think the most important thing in all of this is to learn from it, and somehow better ourselves for all. I think it's important to understand the motive for a person to file a complaint (if that's what happened)
