help our environment and save money too!

Original post made by susan, Grey Eagle Estates, on Aug 16, 2013

California has always been a leader in ideas to help our environment, from cleaning up the pollution in our air with cleaner fuel to providing water hydration stations at our airports to refill our reusable water bottles.
With the hot weather here in the past few weeks it is sad to hear an electric or gas clothes dryer spinning away when Mother nature and a retractable clothes line provides free solar drying power as well as a bleaching and whitening agent! Whole house fans (almost free with a PG&E rebate) are an affordable answer to air conditioning. Although a whole house fan would not do well in the Central Valley here in Pleasanton our nights cool down enough to quickly cool down a two story house within 15 to 20 minutes.
Lets see some articles in the Weekly with other suggestions to save energy from thrifty readers!

Right on susan! I totally agree with you. My thrifty savings idea was to install a grey water storage collection unit. The water from my shower and washing machine goes to a collection holding tank and from there pumped out by way of a sump pump and garden hose to water my flowers and lawn. I do not use this water on root vegtables of course but otherwise it is just fine. In the winter when we have rain I have also devised a shut off system for the collection unit.

I agree that it would be nice if the Pleasanton Weekly did a big article on energy savings ideas that Pleasanton residents have come up with.............
