AC Not Working

Original post made by Kristin, Another Pleasanton neighborhood, on Aug 8, 2012

Someone said flip the AC switch on the circuit breaker.
But non of the switches are labeled AC, or anything remotely related.
What's that contraption outside called, that creates the cool air?
It doesn't spin around at all.
We're boiling.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!

By code, there will be a circuit breaker within a few feet of the 'thing outside' itself. That's a more likely place to check if it's flipped. If it's an older model it may actually have fuses that you could test and/or replace. If it's neither of those and you're sure the thermostat isn't broken then it's time to buck up and call a professional.

Or head out for a bit and in an hour or two you can open all your windows for relief.

Do you have a big brother smart meter planted in your house to tattle when you dare to use your AC, and PG&E turned it off?? It's purpose it give them the 'power' over your usage, regardless of your desires.
Remember when they wanted us all to 'live better with electricity' and encouraged to all to power up.
Smartie meters report our usage at 15 minute intervals. That's so PG&E can rob us blind if we dare to have the gall to use AC at 4 & 5 PM, when they order use to use electricity during the night at 4 & 5 AM, as they have ordered. If you use against their wishes, you will pay 4 - 5 times more on your bill. We have fewer rights than little ants, as we get squished by this utility.

What's amazing is that if you go back East or to the Midwest, it's freezing cold inside stores, restaurants, public buildings, homes etc.- even if it's boiling hot outside - you need to bring a sweater along. And it's just the opposite in the winter - everything is really super-warm inside. PG&E is just the worst thing going for Californians. I'm not saying we should over-do it with energy usage but what the heck - when it's 100 degrees outside we're supposed to turn down the AC? Why do we have it?

PG&E wants to rob us blind if we dare to use AC in late afternoon ...you know, like when we NEED it !!! They give away ice in winter ! and expect to be thanked for it, when they are willing to kill us in the heat of the afternoon.. That's precisely what smarties are for...to sock it to us for use during hours of 3:-7:
With the rates for those hours they could provide the rest for free.
