Is Pete Stark the type of person you want representing you?

Original post made by Dave, Birdland, on May 18, 2012

Read in the local "Independent" that they were supporting Pete Stark in his bid for reelection to Congress.
I'm shocked and appalled that the Independent would lower their morals to the standards practiced by Pete Stark.
Their rationale for supporting him is based on previous brief flashes of respectability surrounded by many more examples of a man who is dishonest, hot headed and not at all shy in throwing out flat out lies.
One should support a candidate who shows real leadership and perhaps most importantly honesty. Their statement that "Stark is aging and arrogant when dealing with his opponents" should have also included his verified dishonesty and his verified false hoods that he has spouted about anybody who dares to challenge him. Let me recount some specifics.
Dishonest? You be the judge. The office of Congressional Ethics United States House of Representatives investigated Pete Stark in November 2009 for alleged violation regarding listing his house that he owns in Harwood, Maryland as his principal residence on Maryland tax forms. By doing so, Representative Stark received state and county homestead tax credits and any annual increases in his home assessments were capped at no more than 10 percent. In order to qualify for the Maryland Homestead Tax Credit, Maryland law requires the home to be used as the owner's ''principal residence''—where the homeowner regularly resides and is designated for voting, obtaining a driver's license, and filing income tax returns. When questioned on this he continually didn't remember or didn't recall. Is this the type of representation that the Independent supports?

Aging? You be the judge. Representative Fortney "Pete" Stark identified Fremont based Solyndra –the bankrupt solar energy firm as a car manufacturer when asked about his views on new polices regarding Silicon Valley and high tech. Interestingly he apparently never figured out that it's Tesla Motors that makes electric cars as he never acknowledged his error.

Arrogant? You be the judge. Pete Stark accused San Francisco Chronicle conservative columnist Debra J. Saunders of donating to his opponent. A statement that he knew was not true.
In addition, Pete Stark accused one of his opponents of taking "hundreds of thousands of dollars" in bribes, again an out right lie in which he had to apologize later for such a statement.
Stark also had accused one of his opponents of having a spotty voting record. But Alameda County Registrar of Voters records show that his opponent has voted in every election since he returned in 2006 from Maryland, where he had attended college and law school.

These are just a few examples of the type of person that Fortney "Pete" Stark is.

Fortunately, newspapers such as the San Francisco Chronicle, Contra Costa Times and the Hayward Daily Review endorse somebody else for Congress.
Is Pete Stark really the type of person that we want to support?

good post.

but you forgot to mention his close affiliation to the marxist/communist
-loving SEIU.

-also he stated that the fed govt has "unlimited" powers to do anything they want to control the American citizens. In other words, Stark is trashing the US Constitution and the Bill of Rights.

- if America is to succeed, he needs to be retired

btw: how did he he accumulate such wealth on a public salary?

Yes, I am supporting Pete Stark along with the Democratic Party, who is supporting Pete Stark.

The Independent reported that Swalwell voted Yes to supported the EIR to develop the pristine Doolan Canyon, open space between Dublin and Livermore, with housing between Dublin and Livermore. Dublin violated the MOU which Dublin signed saying it would be open space.

The Independent also reported that Swalwell has taken considerable contributions from the Lin family and James Tong, developer of Oak Grove and East Dublin, who are currently bulldozing the hills and ridgelines of East Dublin building yet more houses on ridgelines and hills of East Dublin.

Why would someone want to vote for someone who takes campaign contributions from people currently suing the citizens of Pleasanton who previously sued the citizens of Livermore as well as the citizens of Alameda County?

I don't trust Eric Swalwell.

Stacey is a registered user.

The Independent also reported that Swalwell was the only councilmember who voted no on a proposed development in Doolan Canyon. How can anyone make such a decision without having all the facts that an EIR would report?

And the Independent reported that Stark thinks that now is not the time to be paying down the national debt because the money is needed now for health and education programs. He is quoted, "When the country grows rapidly and unemployment is low, then it's time to consider how to lower the debt." Yet absolutely nowhere in the interview does Stark present his plan for growing the country rapidly and lowering unemployment.

And this is the main problem with politicians today on both the right and the left. No one is talking seriously about the subject of jobs. Guess what, the country isn't going to grow rapidly. We're beyond that phase. Stop with the lip service. No, rich people don't create jobs either, especially when taxes on non-productive investments are too low.

To Democrat;
Please get your facts straight. You are being "snookered" by the untruths that Pete Stark has thrown out there. The claim that Eric Swalwell has "taken considerable contributions from the Lin family and James Tong" is untrue and when Pete Stark made that outlandish claim in the candidate forum, hosted by The League of Women Voters, he was forced to apologize, apparently only after being threatened with a lawsuit for slander.
After reading the facts in the original posting, my question would be to you; How could you trust Pete Stark?
Remember there are three candidates running for this office, so if your not enamored by either Pete Stark or Eric Swalwell, there is another choice out there.

I certainly never did want him. He's only there because ignorant and uninformed are allowed to vote too ! Not all voters are informed voters !
