Pleasanton native has two months to live

Original post made by Jon on Jan 25, 2012

Janet Liang, a 25 year old girl from Pleasanton and UCLA graduate, is holding onto life after battling Leukemia for the past 2.5 years. She needs a bone marrow donor by April, and because she is Chinese American, a match is very difficult to find. Please register as a marrow donor at and follow Janet's story at

Everyone can register to be a marrow donor but people of Asian descent are needed to register now more than ever. Go to Janet's Facebook Page and 'Like' it to learn more and see updates!

I have been in the marrow registry for 25 years. I have reached the final level of typing, there are many levels, most people never pass the first level. They always say you will probably not be matched with anyone but I have been matched to the last level with 3 people. They call me back to confirm that I am healthy and still willing and tell me I am someone's insurance policy. I have never gotten the call to go to the hospital but I know I gave three people some hope. They never told me the outcome of the people who I matched but I was told they may have had success with self-harvest.
Janet I am not likely to be a match for you, but if I am I will be there. I will pray for your good outcome.

Julie, (or anybody else) can you please let us know what we need to do to go on the bone marrow registry. It's one of those things people may think about but don't do anything because we don't know where to go or what will be done. thanks
