580 East Off Ramp to Hopyard

Original post made by JoeJoe on Dec 6, 2011

Folks, if you take the Hopyard exit from 580 east, and you will be making a left onto Owens, please keep in mind that there are TWO right turning lanes, and you need to be on the "left" right turning lane. Please do not stay on the one on the right and then try and cross 3 lanes of traffic. There are people to your right making a right turn also.

I have almost been nailed way too many times by oblivious people there.

Maybe we need a motorcycle cop to educate people over in that area?

Also be aware that Dublin changed the Dougherty Rd (Hopyard)/ Dublin Blvd interchange. You can no longer make a "right on red" from southbound Doughtry to westbound Dublin Blvd.

Dublin police have been handing out tickets like candy.

I have experienced that also. I am making a right turn onto Hopyard and the car to my left cuts me off, trying to get to the left turning lanes to Owens.

Perhaps the city should place signs before the intersection telling drivers that both lanes are right turning lanes. I suspect many people that don't live in town use that Owens route as a cut through to avoid the 580 east congestion.

My apologies, I meant to say "the car to my right".

Paul M, or perhaps instead of cut through traffic using "the Owens route" its Pleasanton residents trying to get home and picking up their husband at the BART en route. C'mon people, let's not always blame "outsiders" for all the things that annoy us. Having said that, it would be good if the City would re-strip the right-turn on Hopyard to eastbound Owens Drive. Placing a stop bar farther into the intersection so vehicles can continue to make a free right turn while traffic waits at that signal. The intersection is off-set in its alignment from east to west so a restripe would also make it clearer to merging traffic.

June, I did not mean to put blame on anyone, but rather ay that perhaps people that do not live here are not aware that there are 2 right turning lanes, since the signs in the area are very poorly marked.
